Oil spray

On start up i have smoke coming from under neath the hood. and when i park it i have a bad oil leak. I was looking ubder the car and it appears to be coming form the ooil pan. Theres no smoke coming out of the exhaust but tons out of the engine compartment. I need to get this fixed becasue putting oil in it every week is tedious. Any ideas what it is??

Let me guess....

This is a rebuilt engine, or at least, the smog pump is gone; and the oil is all over the right-hand side of the motor and frame, down low.

Eh?

Valve cover bolt: file or grind it flat; center punch it in the exact center; drill with successively larger drill bits, starting with about a 1/16", until you get to the Heli-Coil size for ¼"-20 (valve cover bolt size); install Heli-Coil. You may find, if you use left-hand drill bits, that the broken fragment will back itself out somewhere in the drilling process.

DO NOT ALLOW A DRILL BIT TO BREAK!!!! There are few things in the world that are harder to drill, than broken drill bits.

I don't recommend an "EZ Out" or any other "bolt extractor". I have never, in all my days, not even one time, successfully succeeded in getting a broken-off bolt out with one of those. Every time, and I do mean every single time, that I have ever tried one, it broke off in the bolt. And a broken EZ-Out is one of the few things that will compete with a broken drill bit, for being hard to deal with.

As far as the smog pump: did you put a bolt in the upper one of the 2 bolt holes for its bracket? If not, stick your head in front of the block there, and check out the view of the inside of your crankcase. You can look RIGHT INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE MOTOR through that one bolt hole. Put a SHORT bolt in it with a drop of sealer on the threads.

Fill up the 'port holes' in the side of the case and that should stop your oil leak problem.

As for the bolt, i will also have to say just drill it and heli coil the bugger. Im another one of those anti easy-out tool guys, ive always ended up busting them off, and let me tell ya it aint easy trying to drill one out!
