4OOhp/tq Engine Combo - Help needed

I require help with planning the rebuild of the tired L98 (trans and rear to be done at a later date probably) in the IROC.
The car is driven daily and i want to have around (hopefully over) 400hp naturally aspirated and keep peak tq & hp below 6000rpm. I have a budget of about $2700 Aussie Dollars (bout $2000USD approx).

For the engine I'm thinking:

- Edelbrock Performer RPM complete heads w/170cc chambers (don't know a lot about heads, but saw these in the Aug '06 issue of Chevy High Performance and they seemed ok).

- Cam that matches the heads pretty well (any ideas on lift/duration/specs, etc???)

- Summit engine rebuild kit (hypo pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, etc).

- Block hugger headers & Flowmaster 3" exhaust w/80 Series muffler.

- If i can afford it, i might spring for a converted LT1 intake if it's worth the cash.

- And just replacing all the little things like plugs, leads, etc.

Am i on track for my hp/tq goal? Any other suggestions or input regarding intake/cam/head choices??

Block huggers won't fit, buy long tubes if you can spare some ground clearance. I wouldn't bother with those heads, I know in the states one of the hot deals going is the Brodix IK200 heads, alot of places are selling them right at 1000 a pair. The goal of 400fwhp via a TPI engine is a lofty one but is attainable. If you convert to an LT1 intake it will be easier to get but you're going to be trading off the brutal low end of a TPI for a higher smoother torque peak of the LT1 intake. I don't know how emmisions are down there but have you considered the Stealth Ram intake? The first thing you should sort out is if the 400hp goal is what you're really after and pick what intake you're going to use, then work on matching heads and cam to that. Good luck on the build.

Thanks for the info. I am chasin' 400hp at the flywheel, if that helps. I will look up those heads and check 'em out. I usually get my parts stateside so the Brodix ones should be obtainable. Ok, i though long tube headers wouldn't fit, but it's the other way around. I have Wrong Hand Drive, so i need a set that doesn't take up make room on the other side of the engine bay. The Stealth Ram looks good, i just checked it out at Summit.
Oh yeah the emissions down here are more lax generally. Especially compared to Cali.

Any other ideas?

Ok, will those heads fit? I checked 'em out at Summit, and it says up to '87?? They should right?

Should bolt right on no problems. You have an interesting perdicament with the long tubes there, I don't know if any members have ran headers on a RHD car. You might want to make a post specifically about that, or call the manufacturers about it. The Stealth Ram has no emmisions compataibility but if you can get away with it that's the way to go. The Stealth ram will like a bigger duration cam than the TPI would, say 220 230. Search around I'm sure you will find someone on here who's made close to 400fwhp with what you're planning to run.
