finally fixed the miss... now...

fixed the miss... was a wire burned on the headers..... i checked it a million times ... doh... i also changed the spark plugs while i was at it..

anyways now i have a different problem... hard accel like apssing someone i have a pretty bad backfire through the carb problem.

Never happened before.... now if i accelerate is will chug and pop thru the carb, not a huge backfire but its decent.... enough to be seen thru the cowl at night.

Timing has never been changed since i got the motor running .... its at 10* adv base timing with the vacuum advance on ported vacuum... IIRC.

the floats on hte carb are set a bit high... easy enough to fix on my demon... would this be the problem...

also i noticed since i swapped the plugs my car has been running rich latley... like to the point where i smell it and it puff black a bit at idle... and a cloud when i stomp it... i tried playing with the 4corner idle bleeds but i got frustrated because i could see any changes... is it righty lean or lefty lean... whats the best way to adjust them when theres one on each corner... arggg i have to much to do at work to test and tune my car... any suggestions????

Is it possible when you changed the plugs you got the firing order wrong? Sometimes you can be absolutely positive you have it right, then check it again and a couple are crossed.

WOT is black like a diesel.... i didnt jet it up i dont know why it would run suddenly rich??

do you not read... it is definately rich..... lean doesnt blow more black smoke than a locomotive....

anyways ... my car ran outta gas yesterday while driving.. no fuel or odo so i guess.. lol dicked around with the idle mixture screws and it now running less rich but the idle screws are only 3/4 turn out from full lean

Re: finally fixed the miss... now...

um yeah back fire through carb is a sign of a lean spot especially when you get in it... sounds like you need to learn how to read smartass cause if you had even bothered to do any searching in the CARB board you would have seen about a million people who have already had the exact same problem...
but maybe that is like that plug wire you checked a million times.... the 1000001 times the charm eh?

and just because it is puffing black smoke at WOT doesn't mean your primaries are also rich... could be but that type of backfire through the carb means you are having a transition problem...from the idle to main metering circuits

although 3/4 is a bit rich for a 4 corner idle it is hard to tell exactly what your engine needs... do you have both primary and secondary throttle blades adjusted correctly? what cam and squirter are you running on the primarys?

ALSO and this is important as alot of people dont realize that when you switch to a decent siezed cam... your exhaust will always smell much more rich than a new FI car trying to tune that out is almost impossible

well thanks for not being helpful unlike he carb board... anyways the 4 corners were adjusted too rich leaning it out solved the WOT smoke and the backfires... and i never said or mention the jets being the problem.... have a nice day
