losing power at 70 km/h
So i have been running my car around today (1983 T/A 4 BBL Roch Q-Jet Carb LG4 Motor with HO heads on it). I noticed that i cannot put my foot fully into the pedal as it will literally lose power until i take my foot out of it again. after that i either have to put the car into neutral and rev it up a bit or pull over shut it off turn it back on and its fine til i go over 70 with my foot into it again. it DOES NOT do it when I gently ease the motor up to 70.
I have already done the mixture screws on the carb and the carb is pretty cleann so i dont think its that. Now my mecahnic has ripped out some vaccuum lines and re routed a few things so as to not have all the smog crap in it. That should not cause it though should it?
I am in desperate need of an answer. Could it be fuel pump thats going bad? I have had someone tell me this but thought i would check with my fellow third gen'ers first.

could be a bad fuel pump, dirty filter in carburator,or
the plastic mesh filter sock in the tank plugged.

What you're describing is like what I experienced with a non-computer HEI dizzy that lost centrifugal advance. If you now have a non-computer HEI, pop the cap, remove the rotor, and check both the centrifugal and vacuum advance mechanisms. Be sure the vacuum advance is connected to manifold vacuum only. If your mech adv is stuck, then when you stand on it, you lose your vac adv, and have only initial timing. If your vac adv is sticking, that could explain you having to effectively re-set it.

If nothing else works also check the coil output.

Re: losing power at 70 km/h
Thanks to all I have figured out the problem finally. Whoever owned the car before me installed the fuel filter at the Carb backwards. After replacing fuel pump and kinks I'm the fuel line we pulled the filter again and finally saw the problem. The car runs absolutely amazing now. Other then the fact that I got 234 km to 100 dollars CAD. Oh well will try and figure that out now too

Re: losing power at 70 km/h
Thanks again. Any ideas why I am puking the fuel out though. I put 234 km (roughly 150 miles) on with a tank and a half of gas. I know its a v8 and they don't sip gas like a 4 cyl rice rocket but 234 K's on a tank and a half sounds a bit ridiculous.
