NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT when ignition ON
Yesterday my car died on the go and didn't start afterwards. When I turn the key the check engine light does not light up. This has happened a few times before but after a few tries it would light. This time it stays off.
Any suggestions? As far as I know if check engine light isn't on when key is turned than there is something with the wiring that goes to the computer.

Has the light been coming on with the key on, engine off before the newest problem? The bulb may be burned out. Otherwise, check the in line fuse in the holder next to the battery. If its blown, you need to figure out why it's blowing. It protects the power supply to the ECM and the fuel pump.
Also check the ECM fuse in the under dash fuse panel.

Re: NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT when ignition ON
it has always been coming on when the key was on and engine off. It has done this kind of thing several times but than it would "repair itself" and the light would come on. This time it didn't happen. The fuses are all ok that are under the dash. But I don't know about that other one that you mentioned. Where is that exactly?
thanks for the reply.

It should be close to the battery, on the inner fender well. It's in a black housing that almost looks like a small relay. It's attached by a screw to the fender well.

I would definitely be checking for a poor connection, either at the ECM/Fuel Pump fuse by the battery, or maybe at the ECM connector itself. I would be very nervous about driving that car too far from home.
