NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT when ignition ON

Yesterday my car died on the go and didn't start afterwards. When I turn the key the check engine light does not light up. This has happened a few times before but after a few tries it would light. This time it stays off.

Any suggestions? As far as I know if check engine light isn't on when key is turned than there is something with the wiring that goes to the computer.

Has the light been coming on with the key on, engine off before the newest problem? The bulb may be burned out. Otherwise, check the in line fuse in the holder next to the battery. If its blown, you need to figure out why it's blowing. It protects the power supply to the ECM and the fuel pump.

Also check the ECM fuse in the under dash fuse panel.

Re: NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT when ignition ON

it has always been coming on when the key was on and engine off. It has done this kind of thing several times but than it would "repair itself" and the light would come on. This time it didn't happen. The fuses are all ok that are under the dash. But I don't know about that other one that you mentioned. Where is that exactly?

thanks for the reply.

It should be close to the battery, on the inner fender well. It's in a black housing that almost looks like a small relay. It's attached by a screw to the fender well.

Re: NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT when ignition ON

I would definitely be checking for a poor connection, either at the ECM/Fuel Pump fuse by the battery, or maybe at the ECM connector itself. I would be very nervous about driving that car too far from home.

This right here. From 10 years in the past, YOU have solved my problem today. I was going through the same motions as the last guy when I came across this forum. Who knew there was a fuse all lonely and by himself up there by the battery. Sure enough, mine was toast. Literally melted. So thank you from the future! 2012 original post and in 2021 I found it. Happy motoring!

It seems to be alright for now. Im going to keep an eye on things. For all I know the fuse got wet at the carwash. Its in a really stupid spot in my car. I will probably put it in a waterproof housing some day. As soon as I replaced the fuse, everything seemed honkie dorie.

Should already be a weather pak connector.

But it isn't. I dont know what this car has been through before it met me 3 weeks ago, so now Im trying to get things sorted out which could have been done better.

Re: NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT when ignition ON

My corolla professional is just cranking but not starting. No check engine light, no spark, and no fuel received on the engine and all the fuses are fine, and replaced all of them. The car cant connect on the diagnostic machine system for the machenic to identify the problem. Car just standing for almost two weeks now. What could be a problem?

A problem is, this forum doesn't know anything about Toyotas. It's devoted exclusively to discussions of 82-92 Camaro & Firebird.
