Serpentine System

I have a 72 350 with cast iron vortec heads and intake. I have the old vbelt system. I want to upgrade to a serpentine system. do I have to get the brackets and all off of a 3rd gen or can I get it off a 87 and up chevy truck? ive looked and looked for information but I cannot find a definitive answer. any help will be great.

Re: Serpentine System

It depends on your induction. If you are running tpi you will need thirdgen serpentine setup. If you are running carb or tbi you can use the truck setup.

im running a carb setup. another question since you seem knowledgeable, ive owned other cars with serp setups and the alternator is on opposite sides and different connections. do I just extend my wires and change ends or will I have to change harnesses? thanks.

Re: Serpentine System

You can extend the wires, the charging lead goes to the starter lug. You can always remove it and run a new lead directly to the battery.

The caprice 89-90 will work as well, It has the same p/n for the passengers side as the f-body and the drivers side just reclocks the power steering pump. make sure you grab the pulleys off the setup you get. Truck and cars the offset of the pulleys is different.

If you have issues finding one , I am going to be pulling mine off my tbi 92 truck
And would like to sell it. I'm going to the 88-92 f-body style for tpi.

Re: Serpentine System

I need to use the tensioner and the power steering pulley, I would have both sides aluminum brackets. The water pump pulley, crank pulley and the bracket bracing.
Im not sure if you are going to be using a/c if not dorman makes delete pulleys.
IIRC the truck pulleys are 1/4 longer than thirdgens. Im not sure if $130 shipped would be reasonable. I wasn't prepared to pull the brackets until maybe next month but if you are interested send me a personal message.
