neon with NOS

ok this theres punk *** doofus running around here with a neon(little base model with i tihnk that 120hp 2.0),and hes packin a 50 shot of juice.i believe hes totally stock, maybe a CAI,if that.i dont think he even has an exhaust, cause i saw him today, and it wasnt loud or anything when he went by me.i plan on racing him at some point in hopes of showing him that even with nitrous hes still slow.any thoughts guys?im figuring that that 50 shot at the most would get him up to around 170,but with no other mods done, especially exhaust,i doubt hes pushing more than 160.and its an auto too i believe.i think it will be close,as im heavier, but have the torque advantage.what ya'll think?

Or that new bass tube.

I'd say it might be closer than expected.

I'd say don't take him too lightly or you could be surprised big time. The weight difference makes a big difference and your L03 is only 170 HP and your on 2.73's too. With a real 50 shot it's gonna be a good race maybe. If you had different gears like 3.73's I would give it to you. Post the results when you do race him.

If I were him I would worry about putting nitro in a stock grocery getter. I'd say if the nitro works the race would be close, but torque will probably put you over the top. I HATE LITTLE RICERS THAT THINK NITRO IS GONNA SAVE THEIR BUTT!!! I'm rootin' for you so make me proud!

why would anyone put nitrous in a stock Neon? they already blow head gaskets like its theyre job, then these ***** idiots add compressed nitrous to an already weak design. boy, its like hes asking for his motor to blow. anyway, if its the base engine its probably somwhere in the low 17s - high 16s, and with a 50 shot id put him in the low 16s or so.

I hate to be the devils advocate, (hehehehe), but I used to regularly race a buddy of mine, who owned a 1st gen Neon (with a 5 speed, and 132 horse). At the time, I had a basically stock L03 with a flowmaster 3", an accel coil, a K&N in the stock airbox, and a centerforce 2 clutch. I would regularly get pasted by him from stoplight to stoplight. Most 4 cylinder compacts have extremely low first gears, which help them to get the momentum up quickly. After he'd scoot away from me in first (while my car has to wind up to 45 MPH before 1st gear is done ), I'd have to play catchup. Often, there wouldn't be enough space to catch him.
By this time, I was already plenty experienced on how to launch the Firebird, so it definitely wasn't driver error.

I think with a 50 horse shot, he may be hard to catch if you're stock, or close to it.

Race him and tell us.

well im waiting for the weather to clear up some around here.prolly next week, hopefully this weekend, ill see him around and get a chance to race his punk ***.i hear ya about the head gaskets, what POS motors those are.this kids a dumbass and has like 4 friends, and has a hott girl whos afraid to leave him.and he starts **** with my girl at school.so hes getting a good beating, but not after i whoop his *** in a race.im pretty sure hes totally stock.he does have a manual though.but im sure he doesnt know how to launch, and i wouldnt bet against him hitting the button right off of a launch,so i would be handed the win there.plus, its a FRIGGIN NEON!!ill let you guys know as soon as i race him how it came out.i just hope to *** i beat him.if not then i lost to a juiced neon.worse could happen i guess.

Are you sure it's base model? IIRC, the Sport Neon packs 150HP and weighs about half as much as your car, so be careful.

That link is hilarious!!! I know someone who does that sort of thing (rents a car to put Nitrus in it), he could help me with mine me thinks . BTW automatic neons 132 or 150hp versions are mid to high 17 sec cars. You car take an easy 2 sec off of that for a 5 speed. If this guy knows how to launch, has a 5 speed, and knows when to hit the giggle gas, I think he's got you. Take any one of those factors out and it turns into a much closer battle. The only way to find out for sure is to run him and tell us what happened.

my sis had a SOHC Automatic neon. Slowest car in the world! I awas afraid to merge on the highway with that thing!

Now she has an Eclipse RS! Her boyfriend keeps trying to convince her to put race mods on it but since I am the one that does the maintainence on it I won't let her! Besides, it's even slower than the neon! And he thinks it's fast! I gotta give him a ride in my car sometime soon if i ever grow to actually like the kid

Kapppooooeeeee there goes the head gasket.

Next time thrifty changes the oil, anti-freeze will be with it.

How could the head gasket last when a daily driven neon blows a head gasket?

You should beat him with no problem. I just beat a dodge sst and my only mod is an open element with k&n. He did spin longer than I did, which helped me pull away, but after about 50 I pulled off and left him anyway. I was actually expecting him to win, but never was smart enough to back down . I forgot i also have a flowmaster, but I still have the tiny factory exaust and cat. Let us know how it turns out.

Personaly.. I think you would waste him and I hope you do. IF something happens and you find yourself in a bind.. you could always ram him And even if you do take second.. at least you will have a car to drive home Neon + Juice is like a hamster on speed.. how long would that last?

Yeah, maybe it'll be like the first race scene in 'Fast &The Furious', when the dude hits his second stage and the floor blows out of his Eclipse.

When you do race him, get someone to video it so we can all se the fire ball when he blows the heads off his motor.

Whats wrong with NOS

NOS is a cheap, easy to install, fast, and effective. There is no other modification that can add power so fast and cheap, except if you use it alot.

well then i think you need to do a little more reading and talk to a little more people about the nos. It is a lot more then just slaping it in and going. and if you do just slap it in and go somewhere down the road you are going to blow something no matter how many time you use it. your stock motor can only hold so much without any other bottom end work before something happens. And if you have already done this "cheep and fast" mod good luck you probably will need it.
