It depends if you have a 305 TPI in very good condition, with a few free mods and he has a 5.0 5-speed and cant drive (by the sounds of it) it is very possible. I have seen Vettes in the 15s, so anything is possible, and especially if his car was a manual. Driver makes the difference!

Sounds like a poor driver. Race from a slight roll if you want to see who really has the faster car. I bet the race would still be close.

Ive seen seen some stock auto 5.0 stangs running low 15's so if his is auto and he had more wheel spin than that sounds about right, the 305 tpi motor isnt a bad motor , my brothers is running 14.6 with just a full exhuast and a gutted air box, thats not bad for a 305 at all.

The 85 305 TPI was a decent setup, 215hp and around 275-285ft-lbs (I forget) of torque. This was a good running setup, had the good cam, not a bad 305 at all. It's the later 305 TPI autos that got the crap peanut-ish cam and lost quite a bit of power (25hp drop from 85-86 due to the cam change).

You should also have 3.23 gears unlike some of them that got 2.73s and such, so it makes a big difference to have the hotter 305 TPI and the better gears. This Stang would need to be driving really well to take you from a stop if you launch well....

Do you have any mods yet??

If you're interested in some free mods to tilt it in your favor, port your plenum (knock down the EGR walls just behind the throttle body) and shim your FPR (a quarter works) to up fuel pressure and you'll pick up a bit. Should be able to pull him then, made a seat of the pants difference in all 3 of my TPI cars I've had... You can use a electric drill and a "rotary file" bit for the porting if you don't have a Dremel or die grinder, I ported a couple of them like that...

Good kill, there. Ihave a 305 H.O., it's ok before I wrecked it, she's gonna get fixed soon, but the difference between my moms 5.0, and my 5.0, is like night and day. I caught 2nd in the 5.0 is crappier gears (2.73's or 3.08's I believe, this is a LX) and the best I've ever done with the H.O. was when my buddies v6 bird was behind me, so I dumped the clutch and spun up a steep hill in 2nd. Also, about 3rd gear in my h.o, at about 4k it starts to feel weak even though its approaching it's peak power. The 5.0 just pulls pretty hard in middle 3rd (highest I've had it...yet ). Good kill though man, surprising what the 305's can do, but with a good driving 90+ 5 speed, I think the 305 would lose, but not by much . Maybe at his rear bumper? Anyways good kill!
