Chevy typhoon....?

this guy in town that i met at the car wash (hehe) drives a black chevy typhoon, which i am assuming is the turboed awd version of the s10 blazer, all handles shaved, emblems shaved, well anyways, i was washing the Maro, getting ready to put it up for the winter, seeing as how she is coming down hard around my parts, and this guy offers a race, so i get his number and tell him ill think about it, he has some little mods in it, i know a NX tank in the back, more weight added with his sound system, and i know he has changed the turbo from its stock, but im not sure what it is, how do you think this would turn out, esp. with his being awd?

i have to go with the typhoon because of the traction issue and your crossfire injection is holding you back badly ....

I thought the Typhoon was a GMC. Same difference anyhow.

You're gonna get raped. I remember seeing an article where they put the Typhoon up against a Ferrari and it beat it. I would just throw his number away.

Those trucks were the fastest production car from 0-60mph for a while. All he needs is a boost controller to smoke you, but you also mentioned him having a different turbo and nitrous? I'd be afraid to run him.

If you run what you said you run, (high high 11s), you will most deffinately win but launch is important. Dont roast them and you should be able to get him. He probly low mid 12's but with the nitrous, could be pushing 11's. Depends on how much boost he is running with new turbo. Those cylcones are quick and typhoon is just a heavier version so bit slower. LOL BADASS trucks tho. :hail:

Never say most definitely when you don't know anything about the other car. Or if nitrous and turbo are used in the same car.

stu, true but do you think a typhoon can run 11's with probly a small shot and turbo/boost upgrades? I thiink he would need a big setup, cuz one in a mag i seen ran 12's with huge turbo and weighed damn near 4000lbs. Based on what 82 said, he got NX and upgraded turbo from stock. True I dont know what he has but those typhoons are not the lightest things esp with sound equipt. This will be close.

Jesus Christ guys...ya's act like they are the fastest things on the planet. They're mid 13 second trucks

Granted he's spraying too but the guy could be complete moron.

If he IS running 11's it's only a matter of time until his block splits in half

He has turbo upgrade so faster than stock. LOL

well from the factory in those times, thats quicker than the damn flagship vette that GM loves. LOL The lightning today just barely runs that.

But he has turbo upgrade meaning more boost and nitrous meaning lots more power. Now that I think about it he possibly could be in the 11's.

Could be, could not be. The bottle just could be for show(yes, it's been done lol).

How do people KNOW it's not a stock turbo?

People hear Typhoon and automatically get scared.

Yeah, I mean, I admit, I hear Syclone or Typhoon and I start getting scared, because I mean, really, they are fast as hell. The Syclone is lighter so it will be faster. I think chevrolet had an ingenious spark there...AWD turbo mini-truck.....what couldn't they hve made an AWD turbo Third gen, huh? Been so much cooler.....well, maybe not lol. They ran the Syclone back in 92 or 93 in Car & Driver (I think) and it ran 13.1's. I dont know if they can still do that today but I do know that buying a STOCK truck to run that fast, is just plain out sweetness. YOu can Work AND Play! But on racing that Typhoon man, Id race him. Dont back out man, you never know, he could be a poser meanin the NX bottle is fake and hes runnin stock....though Crossfire isnt what Id go with, Id just put like a 750 Demon on top of that motor

low 13s stock out of a Typhoon? where did you read this? was it modded? i thought they were only good to low 14s/high 13s out of the box due to their mass? all the GMHTP mags with them in it state that those trucks were low 14s stock

someone please enlightnen me

well from the factory in those times, thats quicker than the damn flagship vette that GM loves
why do non-Vette owners (especially guys that even own other GM cars!) hate on the Corvette so much? i have never understood this. does this mean that as a Corvette owner, i have to hate fbodies? is there some unwritten code? why all the malice guys?

The largest club at our track that competes in Club Clash is called Corvette Connection, and a lot of the members are real dicks. But I still like Corvettes. I can't wait until I graduate school and can buy one, even though they are slower than what I drive now. I think people are just jealous.

typhoons are good for mid 13's and have a turbo 4.3 set up similar to the grans-nats. I rode in one and they are pretty quick...did anyone ever think that it might not be nitrous...but maybe...ALKY INJECTION?

tpivette89-hey what kinda times do you run in you 85 grand nat

stu-everyone hates the vette cause they are americas flagship sportscar and when your on top everyone also want to be on top...remember nobody hates on a bad thing...its when they stop on you hating you should worry....

I'd lose that #...but then I never fight a battle I can't win

yeah i know alot of Corvette guys can unfortunately be a$$holes. id say alot of those types have just bought their first Corvette a short while before. theyre new to it and they think owning a Vette has elevated them above other drivers. the guys who have been in the hobby for awhile are usually better mannered. i personally owned three 3rdgens before i bought my first Corvette... in fact i still like them so much i bought 2 more afterwards!

Stu, you can beat C5s and Z06s? just how much does 5000 feet of altitude affect E/T and mph of NA cars?

i dont have any times on it right now, as i currently have the motor apart. i only drove it stock for a few weeks, then the teardown began

i can say that with a mild tune, and a slightly slipping trans, i was able to beat my mid 15 sec LG4 Z28 by a few carlengths before i began the engine work. id guess its baseline to be somewhere in the low 15s. i expect a huge improvement when its all finished in a few weeks

well, not quite the same turbo setup as grand nat cuz lack of enginebay space, but with 4.3 liters for more power and lots of torque. Badass setup!

http://www.syty.org/old/brochure-trucks.html

280 hp and lots of torque. more than GNX grand nats!

I never said I can beat a ZO6. I've never had a chance to race one, but I've really been wanting too. I've NEVER seen a stock C5 (non-ZO6) run under a 14.00 up here. There probably has been some guy with drag radials or something do it, but I wasn't there (not that I pay all that much attention anyway). I tried to pay a little bit more attention at the last event, and there was a ZO6 pitted next to me that was dialing in at a 13.99, but that doens't mean anything, I think they can run 13.5s at least, but most of the guys up there aren't stock anymore.

At a mile above sea level, N/A cars will run around one whole second slower than the same car would at sea level. My track is at 5,800 ft aboe sea level. Turbo cars usually only lose around half a second at a mile above sea level. Supercharged cars lose closer to what an N/A car loses I believe.

Now, the Corvette guys really get into racing and know how to drive their cars (as far as I'm concerned), but the Viper guys are a whole different story. They either suck at driving, or purposely won't drive their cars hard. The only Vipers that I've seen run below 14.00s were modified. I even watched a guy with a new Viper run a 14.00 at like 104mph. He came off the line like he was leaving a stop sign in a school zone though, what a wuss.

So, I don't really know what a ZO6 or a Viper (of any year) is capable of running up here. I'm pretty sure I could edge out an older Viper from a roll, and I don't think a ZO6 would be able to shake me off either, but I still haven't had any run ins with either. Well, I tried to race a Viper once, but by the time I stopped spinning, he was already done.

I've got 277 whp and weighed in at barely 2,600 lbs with me in the car the night I ran my 13.89, so it's really my low weight that gives me a chance, but the altitude sure helps.

They should do something like that with the colorado. The ZQ8 sport package I think, but should have blown I5 motor. That be cool. Lingenfelter makes TT 427's for escalades, hummers, and probly other trucks too.

i know, but you did say "Corvettes". the Z06 is a Corvette. have you ever raced at sea level? those base C5s would give you alot more trouble if you werent 5000 feet in the air

so a mile high altitude adds about a second to E/T huh? that would put the standard C5 right about where you said it would... mid - high 13s. boy id be pissed if i paid 40k for a new Vette and it only ran high 13s. thank *** i run at sea level

13.99 dial in on a Z06? i would think it should be a bit faster than that! i guess its hit or miss with those guys. they can either drive the hell out of their cars, or they absolutely suck a$$. anyway, that car is an 11 sec performer right out of the box (with the right driver and weather conditions). at Cecil County Dragway i personally witnessed a very near stock Z06 running 11.6s at 120mph. the only mods were a cold air kit and drag radials (if anyone doubts this, go over to www.corvetteforum.com and do a search for the forum member "Ranger"). hes since bested that time with an 11.5. so id say that puts the Z06 as a low 13/high 12 sec car where Stu runs

Altitude doesn't affect turbo cars as much as it does N/A cars. He might be able to run with C5's up in that ****ty air but get down here at sea level he's ****ed

13.89 without much traction at 106 at 5000ft is damn impressive. That trap indicates faster times i would think. Down around me, thats good for mid 12's considering the altitude. With traction, you could go lot faster. I would say c5 is no problem with your car but z06 will run with you or beat you. It will be real close.

gotta find the calculator that converts that time to sealevel and i bet it will be faster than C5.

just convert his time. dont average in what it would be "with traction". Stus car wont get traction at sea level any better than it would at altitude. and from the way ive heard him talk about his suspention and how he likes to go from a roll, i doubt traction mods are on his to do list. also, keep in mind a turboed car (like Stus) will not lose as much power at altitude as a NA car would.

with a competent driver behind the wheel, a 6speed C5 is capable of at least a high 12 at 110+mph. Stu said at his altitude NA cars lose about a second. factor in a half second loss cause his car is FI and that puts him at 13.39. mph would probably increase by around 5 as well, putting that at 111. so in conclusion, id say from a stop a well driven C5 would do him in. from a punch it would be damn close. the outcome of that kind of race would come down to driver skill

more than likely cuz i hear fbodys running around 13 flats and occasionaly a high 12.

Z06 is known to do 11.97 stock. GMhighperformance did a test and ran that time with 50 degree weather, and lower altitude. Think at englishtown

From what stu says, Z06s run in the 13's where he is at, and i am getting a bit confused to all this altitude and NA/turbo car stuff. LOL

I think with drag radials I could pull maybe a 13.4-13.5. My 60's were 2.3 when I ran those times. At sea levelI'd put me at a low 13, or the highest 12 possible if I let Jesus drive my car.

Are you frickin serious? You think a high 12 second car at best, as you said, would put you anywhere near viper or Z06 territory? You are smoking crack. Maybe a bone stock c5 would give you a good run, or when my z28 was stock it would be close, but if you seriously think you have anything for a Z06 or viper you are out of your mind.

LOL. If everyone would kindly stop everything they are doing until all members can catch up to where the rest of us are. Is there a reading tutor somewhere in the crowd?
Hey, you two on the left! Stop horsing around and get back in line.

That Nitrous bottle may just be a bass tube... PepBoys sells a Bass Tube that looks just like an N.O.S. bottle. Very cheesy!

Of course that is a possibliity. I just try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and not immediately assume that they are a clown.
