1999 3.8 Mustang??

Just wondering how fast they are... My friend has had one for a long time...but he has no times on it or anything. Its a 5 speed 3.8. Its got a flowmaster catback, CAI, and 3.73's. Its also decked out in GT trim (rear bumper, dual exhaust, hood, wheels). Ive been it in many-a-times and it feels like a pretty quick car. I'm almost positive he would rape my auto LO3 but i wasnt sure. he beats on his car whereas i ***** mine so its always hard to judge...

The only mods that will be on my car when it comes out in the spring will be a catback, open element, and maybe a hi-flo cat.

I think he's got you beat, but im not sure. My friend has one and with the 5-speed it wasnt that bad of a slouch.

With the small amount of mods to my LO3, I absolutely destroyed a 3.8 Mustang. If you get a catback and open element, you have a decent shot. With those gears he has, make sure you don't do a short race because he probably has the advantage at lower speeds.

Theres a night and day difference between a 94-98 3.8 and a 99-04 3.8. The 99+ cars could be mid to low 15s with good drivers (my friends bone stocker went 15.4 at a crap track) so my guess with his mods is low 15s!

Ah yes, thank you for pointing this out. I didn't even think about the fact that the 99+ 3.8 was much improved over the previous 3.8s. I believe the V6 Mustang I destroyed with my LO3 was a '96-'98.

I never raced the 99+ 3.8, although I did race an '05 Mustang 4.0 and stayed right with him in a race to about 50.

I think if you have to worry about a V6 stang, stock or modded, you need to really step-up the power game

You really can't gauge a mustang's performance by the 96-98 cars - its pathetic really. I think it had a head gasket problem from the factory

Oh yea, its just a 2V SOHC, i forgot

99+ V6s are weak, imho they are the best to race, because so many of the owners around here are young/dumb teenagers who think that their exhaust has made them the fastest car around....lol
