v6 camaro vs monte carlo

Last night I was racing a black monte carlo that was badgeless so i don't know for sure if it was one or not but it was that body style. Older than 90. I gave him a few revs to let him know i wanted to race. We were going about 15 mph head to head then i gassed it and pulled ahead, just letting him know i really wanted to race. Come up to a stop light and I know he wants to go. He's pulling up a little waiting for the light to go green, i let him get a little bit on me so he has some advantage. Light turns green, I gas it and I blew him out the water, he was at least a car and a half behind me. This actually suprised me that my v6 beat an 8. Great race for me.

about what year 90? in the mid/early 90's they switched to all V6's (3.1s and 3.4s), and not very stout V6s at that. The newer ones got better though and they just have started making a V8 an option again.

edit: even if it was a V6 that you beat, its still good to beat a newer and bigger V6. so good kill none the less.

Dont know if it was an SS (Badgeless), ya he knew i was racing, raced from a roll start then did a Stop light race to make sure it was even racing. He started going before the light even turned green. Inching the line then turned green, and I smoked him. After that he drove past me and gave me a few revs. I believe it was pre 90, not too familar with monte carlos. Body looked older. If it was an SS i should've been killed.

My bad, i thought you meant newer than 90.

My guess is that it was a tired old 305.

You sure that the Monte wasn't a 4.3 V6? Nice kill though, I'm guessing you have a 2.8, you got any mods?

I'm not sure exactly but it sounded like an 8, did they put v6's in the older ones? Ya i'm mildly modded. Intake, k&N, new fuel pump/injectors, ported intake manifold, straight cat back, bosch platinum 4's, hypertech computer....

Awesome kill any way you slice it.

A 4.3 with a loud exhaust will sound a little like an 8. But I'm afraid he was probably having some problems. Even a 4.3 in a Monte would have the torque to edge you out. The 4.3s are pretty punchy. They're 3/4ths of a 350, ya know.

And if it was an 8, it would have at least had an LG4. Which an LG4 running worth 2 craps will still take a 2.8

But, you got him regardless of what his deal was, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Yeah they had quite a few engines, the early ones ('79 thru '82 maybe?) had some boat anchor engines that I can't even remember what they were. Some crappy V6 and a 4.5 V8 or something like that. Then they started putting 4.3's and 5.0's in them and they were much improved.

Ya thats a long drive anyways... I wouldn't even race cuz i know i would lose so that would be pointless unless I wanted to know how many car lengths he'll beat me by

Well, it's been sitting in a garage for four years now, and still doesn't run quite yet. His buddy has the same thing with a few more parts (that are on the way) and makes 325 at the wheels. (I think that's what he said.)
