Re: Vs. Ponitac GTP
well i dont think it has been tuned ever. Even from stock , but yet it still runs good. I want to get into diy prom. But it looks really complicated. i know those gtp are superchared 6cylinders. Traction wise i have a stock rearend, im about to order a 3.73 posi rear end from hawks.

Depending on what's in your 383 and what's in that GTP, you might get walked. I've got friends with mildly modded SC3.8's(headers, pulley, rockers, IC, tune) that run low 13's at 106-107.

Re: Vs. Ponitac GTP
If the 383 runs right you should take him, SC3.8's are fast but not as fast as a 383 stroker which should have 400+ hp and a base LS1 should take a GTP with only 305 hp. you should only have to worry about the 06+ GTPs when the 5.3 was put in them.... pushin 300+hp...!

Re: Vs. Ponitac GTP
Does it at least have the ultiamte TBI mods? If not, DO THEM! the 305 unit is the same as a 350 unit but the 383 requires a lot of air. You are choking it to some degree, i'm not exactly sure how much but your loosing power b/c of that. Get a 454 tbi unit and you'll be all set.

on the 454 TB. At the very least, drop in some TBI 350 injectors, from a truck.

Re: Vs. Ponitac GTP
Up here in a slightly higher elevation I have only seen a stock GTP run a high 15 second quarter mile on a good pass, he was usually stuck in low 16s. You should have him easy.

Re: Vs. Ponitac GTP
The only way you lose to a GTP with a 383 is if you are a stroker! A base 383 kit should put out no less than 400hp. Is there a reason why you still have the 305 throttle body on it?

More info on the 383 is needed before anyone can give accurate guesses.
I just remembered about another sc3.8 around here with an M112 that traps 116-118.

Re: Vs. Ponitac GTP
You don't know enough about his specific motor to say that, it might have swirl port heads and a nothing cam OR it might be an AFR headed monster.

anyone who puts swirlports on a 383 is an idiot.... my assumptions are based on him knowing at least a little engine building....

Re: Vs. Ponitac GTP
Well the cam is a nothing cam and i think it has stock 350 heads.
I bought the car with the stroker in it and im not sure what exactly is in it.
Are Ultimate Tbi mods actually worth it?

No thats just how i bought it.
How hard is the switch to 454 tbi? I have a guy offering to sell me the
454 tbi unit and projection manifold for $200. What else would i have to do. How hard is the install?

Re: Vs. Ponitac GTP
So what happened did you race? A GTP with mods is no joke. I can run mid 12's with $1500 in mods. And V10Viper, why do you bring in cars outside of the original post? No one mentioned a "base" ls1 or a GXP GP. Which btw has no aftermarket available to compete with the old L67/32 cars.
Tyler, race 'em and post the results.
