I raced a 280ZX Turbo tonight

He agreed to race me only for the 1st and 2nd gears on my car because it won't shift to 3rd on WOT.

We lined up I could here a whistle coming out from his turbo when he rives up, we launched I got an excellent one so I got the jump on him for about one car and when I changed to 2nd I couldn't count how many cars I pulled on him.

Sucks not being able to shift into 3rd at WOT doesn't it??? Mine is exactly the same way now. Frigging blown tranny, I've been limping around with mine like that forever, and I'm not going to get the $1000 to get a good solid Pro-Built tranny anytime soon either.... Bums me out just thinking about it...

Good kill though.

So he went and put a turbo on his 280zx and still got smoked. Well that is embarrasing.

depending if he had an auto or 5 speed, you mightve been surprised if you had done a full race. those 280zx turbos are no slouches. a turbo I6 is a strong motor.

Hey guys. The 280Zx's did indeed come with a a factory turbo, in the 81-83 years I believe...so did the old style 300's....by the way, the turbo motor that's in the old 280zs for a slightly smaller crank stroke, and another turbo....and it became the RB26DETT...the skyline R34 GTR Turbo motor! Well, lot more mods, but same basic engine. Actually, you can thank Mercedes for the Skyline motors, since Datsun bought the rights to the L-series motor back in the late 60's. Those little L-series motors have a LOT of potential in them.. There's a guy on Z Car.com that's running 12s, on a N/A Dual Su carb car. That's the non fuel injected motor. absolutely smokin for a inline 2.8 liter motor

yeah i used to own a 280zx turbo, it was no slouch. inline six cylinders are good powerplants. the engine in my old 280 had like 180k miles on it and it didnt have a single problem until it blew a head gasket at 181k miles, still ran strong as ever even with the blown gasket. i still kick myself for selling it just cause of a head gasket, but i was in a hurry for a ride.
