Possible to purchase just the Stealthram base, without the plenum?

***Disclaimer: Before I get slapped, I did many searches and did not find an answer to this question.***

Is it possible to purchase just the Stealthram intake base, without the plenum? If so, does anyone know the Holley part # for the base?

I'm planning on using a custom plenum, so I would not need the plenum that comes with the 7540 kit.

Thanks guys.

Ok, let me add a second question. If you have a Stealthram and it is not installed on your engine yet, are there any part numbers on the intake base?

I've been on their website for over an hour. They only list the plenum and base together as part # 7540. I also called summit, they don't have seperate listings either. I'll give Holley a call sometime during the week. I just wanted to see if anyone here knew....

Figured I'd post this in case anyone else is ever looking for this information.

I got an answer from Holley tech yesterday. There is no part number for the Stealthram lower intake. However, they can sell me a satin finish lower without the plenum. For $276.00!!!!!!

I told him that I knew of a retailer (Thunder Racing) selling the entire intake for $279. He agreed that the price was high, but he had no control over it.

Guess I'll have to buy a complete Stealthram intake and list the plenum on ebay.

I am curious, what are you going to do about the plenum?

Oh...well, I have a Formula, and I don't want to remove my hood insulation or cut out a portion of the hood support to make room for the stealthram plenum. I could do it, i just don't want to.

So I'm planning on buying one of Grumpy's "reduced height" C4 Corvette Stealthram plenums.

http://www.fasterdeals.com/garagehome.html

I'll end up spending a bit more, but since it should fit under my hood without any modifications, I don't mind.

That sounds like a good idea. I have seen those before on the boards here. I guess its too bad that Holley didn't make a reduced height plenum to offer Vette and Firebird owners...At the same time, its better for others though...Good luck

It would be nice to have a part number just for the lower one. Especially since they are considering making one that fits the Vortec heads. At least from what I have heard onthe grape vine.

I was also kind of surprised that Holley has not introduced a F-body & C4 compatible version. I've heard several rumors, but Holley says they have no plans to do so. I'm sure there may be development costs that I don't fully understand, but wouldn't L98 owners be the primary market for this intake?

Then again, I'm buying one anyway, despite the added effort necessary to make it fit. And I'm definitely not the first one....

So maybe that is why Holley doesn't feel the need to make changes.

Oh well, it is still an awesome intake. I'll make it fit!

why not just do like JMatlock88 did way cheaper

and his fit under his hood

Have all the sides milled a little bit. and have th Top mins milled off smooth like these pic's

Alot cheaper them grumpies plenum. Then either polish it or have it powdercoated.

I've read all of JMatlock's Stealthram posts, and I certainly do appreciate the information he has provided on this board.

However, in addition to the milling listed above, he also had to ditch the hood insulation, cut the hood support, etc. There is nothing wrong with that - I just don't want to lose the hood insulation or cut the hood.

Now, as I understand it he has polyurethane motor mounts, and they raise the engine a bit. I have OEM mounts. So maybe I could do the millwork he did and it would clear my hood. And maybe it
wouldnt.

I know that the Fasterdeals.com plenum will fit, as it sits a good 1" lower than the Holley plenum. For me, it is worth it to spend the extra money on something I KNOW will fit, as opposed to having my project held up taking trips to the machine shop, having the plenum coated, not knowing if it will fit without modifying the hood.

If someone can show me that they did the work Jmatlock did, and it fit under their Firebird hood with the stock engine mounts, without cutting the hood - then I may change my mind. But I have not seen anything like that yet. If anyone has done it though, feel free to join in....
