Is MFI 2.8 V6 throttle cable same as TPI?
Hi, I was wondering if a 2.8 multiport uses the same accelerator cable as a TPI car? One of the last parts I need (soon) for my TPI install is a cable, and I see tons and tons of 2.8 V6 FI F bodies in U pull it junkyards around here -- never a TPI. I figured GM might have used the same cable since the length should be similar. Thanks!

I really don't think so, IIRC the front of the V6 sits further back in the engine bay, my guess is harness would be "about a hole too short".
I've a spare cable in the shop, I'll dig it out and meaure later today, so you can take a tape with you when you go hunting.
BTW, I don't think a cable is very expensive new, have you priced one out yet?

I couldn't find the spare one I have, but measured the one on my IROC, looks like there's about 30inches coming out of the firewall...should be good enough to give you an idea of what would work.

Thanks Mike. How did you measure that cable length in the car, is 30" the length of the cable shell or the whole thing all the way up to the throttle body? Auto parts stores like NAPA, Autozone, Advance, etc can't even order a throttle cable for the TPI cars. I'll get one off ebay for 10 bucks if I have to, but there are so many of the crappy 2.8 cars in junkyards I'll have to go take a look to see if the cable is close in length.

I measured where it came out of the firewall, then kinda looped up and over along the plenum, then around the throttle actuator...only had a steel tape, but think I got it fairly close.

Has anyone else verified the v6 throttle cable being close enough? How about the TV Cable as well?

I swapped an 89 350TPI into my 87 firebird that was originally a 2.8L. I used the same throttle cable as that for the v6 without any issues. Used the detent cable that came with the v8 tranny that i bought(700r4)
