I finally received the injectors for my 92 Z28 yesterday. I installed them and the fuel rail. Then I installed the runners......partially. I can not get to the two bottom bolts on the passenger side runners. There is a large 1" diameter wiring loom that runs between the runners and the valve cover on the passenger side. I can lift it up slightly to gain some access to the bolts but can not get the T40 bit started on the bolts. Has anyone done this on their 92? I have 1/4" and 3/8" swivels, extensions, t40 bits in 1/4 and 3/8 drive, flex shaft bit driver and none of these seem to help with access.

I did leave the bolts in the runners so they are in position and I have the other bolts started. I quit working on it last night just to get some ideas from the experts that have done this before. My right side valve cover/wiring looks nothing like the motor in the instructions on changing the injectors. That motor seemed to have no wiring loom issues. Mine definitely does!!

It will be a whole lot easier to get those bolts in by just taking the valve cover off.

I would be happy to do that if it helps. Have you done this so you know it works? The valve cover will probably be a bear to get off also with all the hoses and wiring.

If you have the smog junk, then definetly taking off the valve cover works!

I just put new runners on this weekend and I didn't have to take the valve covers off. Try putting the bottom long bolts on the runner then slip it in to place. I didn't use a swivel, either.

I wouldnt take the valve cover off. You should be able to get the loom out of the way enough to get to the bolts. Maybe pull some of the connectors and lift it up, or maybe try pushing down on it a little but be careful because sometimes those looms get brittle over time. I doubt yours is with such low miles but who knows. If you use a torx bit and long extension, you can tighten that bolt with the extension just resting on the top of the valve cover. I've used a flex joint to avoid scratches on the cover but a piece of cloth between the two should suffice as well.

It worked fine on the driver side but there is a ton of shi_ in the way on the passenger side. I'll give it a shot again tonight and see if it will cooperate.

Probably the coil pack, EGR solenoid, vent tube. Most of that can be disconnected fairly easy, unbolted, and set aside until you get those runner bolts in.

It was a pain on my '91 to get those bottom runner bolts tightened. I 2nd the removal of the valve covers.

At least I know I am not alone. Those bolts are a PITA!! I was wondering about finding some with allen heads to replace them. They are easier to tighten at an angle than the T40's and they are not visable after they are installed.

ARP makes a nice bolt kit for the TPI intake
i ordered the stainless steel ones, with a small head on them.

pricey, but probably worth it, and i've always had great luck with ARP bolts
