wont immediately restart after running
ive gotten almost all of the problems on my iroc fixed, but it after i run it for a few minutes and shut it off, it wont restart for about 10 minutes.
im thinking its the fuel pressure regulator. i dont know if the one on there is adjustable or not. and if it is, how do i fix the problem? my cousin (who knows everything about small block chevys) says its most likely flooding because of too much pressure. since i dont feel like spending the money on a fuel pressure guage, i would like to see if i can dial down the pressure to try and fix the problem. ill probably have to get the guage later when i want it really dialed in, but for now i just need a daily driver that wont leave me stuck in the middle of the road if i stall out.
heres a picture.

Do you smell gas after u shut it off?? To me it sounds like it might be a ignition module

not that i recall.
i smelled the exhaust while running and it smelled fine, but i havent checked just after shutting it off or when cranking it.

Another possibility is a leaking injector that's flooding it when shut it off. You can put a FP gauge on it and see if the pressure holds when you shut it off.

Re: wont immediately restart after running
looking at that picture, your regulator is adjustable, that little nut on the top tensions the spring. back it off just a little, a fp guage would confirm pressure adjustment assuming you dont have a leaking injector.

Re: wont immediately restart after running
i thought it was. im going to try that in the morning. i dont think i have a leaking injector because when i push the schrader valve after maybe a minute or two it still squirts up 4-6 inches.
i havent let it sit for more than a couple minutes before bleeding it though so next time im going to wait like 5 and see if there is still pressure, along with backing off the AFPR.

Re: wont immediately restart after running
ok so i got a fuel pressure gauge but it says that its at 40 psi with key on engine off, running is about the same, and after i shut it off its like 42. and it stays there, and still doesnt restart afterward. so i dont think its a leaking injector. any other possibilities?

Re: wont immediately restart after running
im not sure what the ignition module is. but i would imagine its original since most all the other things that should have been replaced at 100k miles were all original.
where is it, how would that effect the car, and how much does it cost for a new one?

Re: wont immediately restart after running
When they wear out, heatsoak shuts them down. So a cold engine will fire right up and a hot engine will be temperamental
A local parts store can test them for function. Dont forget the connection grease under them. If it is bad (likely if its original) then a replacement is around $30

Re: wont immediately restart after running
Sorry I took so long to post an update. It was, in fact, the ignition control module. At least I think it was. I replaced the whole distributor including that and it fixed it. Thanks for the help, it woulda taken several tries and a couple hundred bucks on my own.
