looking at putting a 4.10 behind my 700r4 with 350 TPI motor. I have a high lift cam and slighly modified computer to run the motor. Other than that it's basically stock. I'm looking to make a good torque screamer, but do you think that the 4.10s would be too big in 1st gear with the 3.06 ratio of the 700r4?

Or should i just go with 3.73s instead? I'm really looking for off-the-line supercar here, but i'm just wondering if i'll burn up all of first gear to quickly. Anyone running 4.10s on their 700r4???

IMO the 4.10 would be to much. I would stick with 3.73 or 3.42 if this is a daily driver. If it is a pure race car THEN go with the 4.10.

i do use it as a "daily driver" but in all honesty i only put on <4000 miles a year. i'm leaning towards the 4.10s to give me an impressive 1/4 mile. What would be the difference between the 3.73s and the 4.10s?

Is your TPI stock, do you plan on increasing the RPM Range of it?

with 4.10 you will hit the (TPI WALL ~4600rpm) very fast and for th last bit of your run it will be bouncing off it.

If you plan on upgrading (SR, MR, HSR etc.) then go for 4.10

otherwise 3.73s would be tops for stock TPI.

Actully I've read a bunch of times that 3.4x-3.5x are the best for TPI. 3.73 gears and an auto tranny will have you out of your power range. Search around, there have been guys running slow ET's with 3.73 or higher gears. I would only run something higher than that, if you change the intake.

4.10 with and LT1/Mini-ram or 3.73 with a SR.

IMO I would go with the 4.11s if you planning on doing more work to your motor. I have 4.11s but have built a real screamer. There's nothing worse than saying I should have gotton those bigger gears while I had it apart. Plus you have a 700R4 you can handle the gears... I do.

As has been said in several replies, you do not want to gear the car for the 1/4 mile if the gears will cause your engine to exceed it's useable powerband.

Ideally, if you redline at 5000 RPM, you want to be at 5000 going through the traps. If you over gear the thing, you'll have to shift into OD and your ET's will suffer badly.

Also you may develop a traction problem going from say 3.42's to 4.10's because the low end torque multiplication with the 4.10's will cause you to spin more and your 60' times will get worse.

Somewhere there is a gear ratio calculator to figure this out.
