What can I change my t-56 stock trans to??
I have an 1989 GTA 5spd......recently I started to notice whinning noise from the 1st and 2nd gear and also in reverse. Since I'm pretty sure those sounds arent good, I know I'm going to be looking at buying a new transmission soon. Does anyone know of a good unit I can purchase that will be a lil beefier and durable than the stock one? Also can it just bolt right in or am I gonna have to fabricate alot? All help greatly appreciated.

Or have Tremec rebuild it for approx $700 from what I've read on here and be good to 450 or so HP....
That way you bypass all the conversion stuff.
Or get a "built" 700R4 if you're tired of shifting it yourself. They bolt right up and use the same drive shaft.

No I want to keep the car manual.....its a rare combo GTA 5.7TPi T-Tops and 5spd. So tremec will do a rebuild for $700? Do I have to send them a core and they send me a new one or is the actual work done to my original trans itself?

If you get a trans rebuild, you sent the a core, if not, you'd be buying a rebuilt trans.
If you do a lot of highway driving.. or do autocross .. look into
the T5-6 as a second option.
THo if you get you're rebuilt for 700$ .. from tremec, I doubt its worth getting a 6 spd, unless you need the 6th gear.

When I first ran the RPO codes thats exactly what came up. I'll definately stick with the original 5spd that requires less modification, anyone got a good place to purchase one of these?
PS I think I run those RPO's again just to double check

Yeah, you'd better. No way the RPO's come up with 5.7 and T-5.... ypu've probably got the "F" engine (305 HO, possibly with dual cats)

Not to say your 6.5 pints is wrong, I only know the quarts measurement.
