I was thinking a .5 t-56 with a massaged LSX engine and 3.72s in the rear would make a fun street car, but is there anyway of putting a 2 speed rear end in the back with 2. somethings so one could do something ridiculous (top speed wise) on one of those mad max long azz desert roads?

How much would one of those axles f your weight distro up?
One of the reasons I thought this might be a good idea compared to a over/under drive on the tailshaft (like gearvendors), is this would kick the weight of that auxiliary tranny out to the rear of the car.

Those probably weight about 3 times as much as a stock axle if not more. You could look at putting a Winter/Franklin/Tiger quick change rear end that racers use. You would have to swap the gears manually but you would be able to at least have a ton of gear selection. I don't know how durable one would be on the street though.

that axle is a dually and looks like a military axle. you have to fight off the rock crawlers. doubt it could handle those speeds

Just did a quick calculation for you. Even with 3.73 and 26" tires, 6th gear would have a max speed of 250+ mph.

You'll have a lot of other things to deal with even before you even near 200.

theres a guy on NJFBOA who had a 2:73 rear behind his t56 for a while and the speed calculations were hilariously fast

You will want to make 600-700hp first and foremost. Pulling 6th gear is no joke, you need a LOT of power. 3.42's and 5th gear might get you there but it depends A LOT on how much or how little rpm you'll be revving. Goodluck!

I dont remember the exact number but with the drag coefficient of our cars I though it was more like 500hp to make a hole in the air for 200.

Wonder how much a small hood scoop would effect the numbers (one about the size of the ones on the 03ish mustangs)

Also have to thing about the room that's down there. Or as the case maybe, not down there. That thing would never fit unless it was sitting in the backseat.
