Re: turbo 350 v.s. 700r4
If you do a search, there is a lot good threads regarding this. Here's one for you off the bat. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...350-turbo.html If you run a 700, to handle the power, it needs to be built for it. the 350's are cheap to build for power, but lose a lot if you care about mileage. I've done two swaps now, and after driving mine for a bit, I may just leave it in there because I do like it.

if its more of a daily driver, go 700r4, but be prepared to spend a few dollars
it its more of a weekend warrior, go th350 and just be ready to spend a few extra bucks on gas

Re: turbo 350 v.s. 700r4
what he said^
i had my 700 built for around 800 but the guy gave me a good deal for parts and puting it together. he said for anyone other than me it wouldent have left his shop with out $1800. i have harden cluches, band, corvette servo, harden sun shell, trans go shift kit, 2300 2500 stall, and a few other things but i cant think of right now but i wanted to use my 700 for gas mileage and i have 3:73 and she would have been winding pretty high at the end of the quarter lol.
and i love how 700r4s have a little bit lower first gear too... i leave 1st, 2nd,down in about 200 feet. (spinning of corse lol)

well the 700r4 is a 4 speed overdrive. the th350 is a 3 speed. if you drive only in town the 350 will be ok. the overdrive in the 700r4 will be much better for highway but stil good in town. gearing for the 350 are Lo 2.52 - 2.75, 2nd 1.52, 3rd 1.00. the 700r4 has Lo 3.06, 2nd 1.63, 3rd 1.00, 4th 0.70. find out what would work best for you then go with it.

wow thanks for all the great advise guys! i live in cloverdale close to langley and im going to mission race way so i will be on the high way a good 40 minutes to hour can the 350 handle that? or will it have a hard time ? i only plan to use this car to rip around in for fun and race but i might use it as a daily driver in the summer time... maybe not if the 350 can handle the high way ill go with that one if not ill do the 700r4??

Re: turbo 350 v.s. 700r4
the turbo 350 is more than capable of being used in a daily driver, they were for years and years before overdrives were commonly used. the deciding factor will be what you can put up with. my car is daily driven about 30-45 minutes one way on the freeway everyday, so it will hold up.

Re: turbo 350 v.s. 700r4
The 350 will survive the highway just fine but the lack of an over drive will make the motor spin quite a bit higher than the 700.
This will effect MPG and your own comfort on long highway cruises, you may love your exhaust now but an hour of cruising in the middle of the tach can get old really fast.
Another option is the 2004R, the 700 can be built to hold 4-500 HP and similar levels of torque but it's pushing it to it's limits for anything that'll rack up real street milage.
The 2004R can be built for 1000 HP or better no problem, but the aftermarket is a bit smaller than even the 700 and the price will go up noticably. You'll beed a new torque arm mount but you really dont want to keep it bolted to the trans at the level you are planning anyway.

Re: turbo 350 v.s. 700r4
idn i guess.... i just knew i wanted to stick with my 700 for od and and a little lower first gear. the guy that built my trany (performance Transmission in norfork) said it would stand up to 900hp easy if i kept a low stall in it. idn thats what he said.

Re: turbo 350 v.s. 700r4
This thread has helped me in somewhat determining if I want to put a turbo 350 tranny in my IROC-Z. I've got the car up for sale now but if I ended up not being able to sell it I've found a turbo 350 for $150 that works good & I would buy it to replace my 700r4. I don't know yet but thanks for posting this thread.
