TKO 600 in 86 Camaro

I have a 86 camaro that I installed a tko600 trans in. I have Ram HD Clutch, Hayes flywheel. The car ran fine with my stock t5 in it with this set up. Than I started doing my TKO swap. I got my TKO 600 kit from AMP Performance its a brand new TKO600 GM 9 piece starter kit which includes the following from AMP Performance. Tremec TKO 600 4618(.82 OD) transmission, short throw shifter, 31 spline slip yoke for 1330 u-joints, needle roller pilot bearing, rubber mount w/hardware, mechanical speedo adapter kit, free synthetic fluid, installation tips sheet and Tremec Hat. I bought a Lakewood Blowproof Bellhousing and the trans is straight up and down not on the slant. Than I got Spohn crossmember for my trans, and got the driveshaft done.

Installed the fluid started the car tried putting it into gear, Couldnt get it into gear. So I bleed the slave cylinder, followed this site instructions (http://www.teamrip.com/how_to_proper...utch_info.html). I tried again to get the car into gear. No Luck still so I adjusted the pivot arm on the bellhousing, unscrewed it half way and restarted the car. It made a squealing noise but once i let my foot off the clutch it want away and i repress the clutch and no noise, tried putting it into gear and with some force it made grinding noise but wont go in. So I unscrewed the Pivot arm bolt all the way out and restarted it and Nothing still. Please help

Re: TKO 600 in 86 Camaro

i posted in you for sale thread, didnt see this.

can/could you rotate the output shaft? When i received my tko, is was jammed between gears from shipment, i was advised to put a piece of pipe through the yoke and give it a quick snap/twist to pop is out. then all was well. Maybe thats your issue?

Re: TKO 600 in 86 Camaro

First let me start off by saying your probably the TKO specialist on this forum.

Yea that was the first thing i did was make sure it was in Neutral and spin the out put shaft. If I knew this would be this big of a head ache i would of never done the swap

im flattered, but i can safely say im defiantly not the best here.

anyway, if thats not it, then is some issues with the clutch setup somewhere. Not the transmissions fault

did you install the TO bearing correctly?

can you verify the slave cylinder is functioning and moving as much as it should be?

is the car running when you are doing this?

Re: TKO 600 in 86 Camaro

You mentioned the pivot ball. I remember I had to lengthen the threads of mine in order to get the operation correct. Even with the pivot ball adjusted all the way out I couldn't get the clutch to disengage. Basically I had found a bolt with the correct threading, cut both pieces and welded them together. Gave me much more adjustment.

Re: TKO 600 in 86 Camaro

Just took the trans out. This is what I found. I noticed the pilot bearing was shread it. But I still want to make sure the throw out bearing is the right one now I got it apart..

Here a few pictures: PHOTOS

Let me know what you think.

Does anyone know how to measure to make sure you got the right throwout bearing.

Re: TKO 600 in 86 Camaro

i find it funny that you already told me you have the TO bearing installed correctly, yet in the pics, its obviously wrong.

as for the trashed pilot, you have have to index the bellhousing to correct that

this is not right, those tabs go under the lip, like the 2nd pic i posted earlier

that is one of, if not the, problem

That would be your problem, right there.

That old pic of mine that 86TA is not the best; here's my later one that I've been using.

Which one does your pic look more like?

That would be why your clutch doesn't work right.

Re: TKO 600 in 86 Camaro

How do you like your trans and rear gear combination now that it works?......Do you use a mechanical speedometer? Is the shifter in a good location? Sorry about all the questions.....just interested.

Re: TKO 600 in 86 Camaro

I like it. It works good together.Yes I use mech speedo. The kit I bought came with adapter so the speedo is right with the tire and gear combo. Shifter is in good location all I had to do was do a little trimming work to the center console but you cant tell.
