Will a T56 leak fluid when drive shaft removed?
I'm in the midldle of a T56 swap and have got the T56 mounted to the engine. I don't have the drive shaft or torque arm installed. At this point I would like to fill the trans with fluid and run the engine up to check clutch operation and see if it shifts gears with the motor running.
Is it ok to fill it up with fluid or will it all come pouring out the rear?

Well I tried to do this and it most certainly does come pouring out the rear.
You owe me half a quart of ATF.

as long as the trans is level the leakage can be minimized, even better if the tailshaft is lifted a small bit.
But just like an automatic, the output shaft will leak like a sieve if you pull the yoke out. Especially if the tailshaft dips down.

That explains it. I had the yoke and drive shaft pulled out and no tranny mount installed so the tail shaft was pointing down a bit.
