Re: DIFF CARRIER WONT COME OUT OF GM 10 BOLT
Get a piece of wood, like a short 2x4, and a 3lb hammer. Put the wood on the ring gear teeth, and give it a good beating. Should come out after that.

The ring gear only has teeth on one side, so it should be pretty obvious which way you would be hitting it.
the carrier was stuck like this in my 92 as well

Re: DIFF CARRIER WONT COME OUT OF GM 10 BOLT
YOUR POSTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO READ AND COME ACROSS AS DEEPLY RUDE. FIX THIS.
The carrier is supposed to be a preload fit into the housing. That is, the space in the housing, should be around .015" or so smaller than the carrier with the bearings on it. They usually require a good bit of force to pull out, and if they don't, it's a SURE sign that something is major-league wore out.
I usually use a long prybar (like a tire tool for example) and git it in there behind the carrier; then have my assistant rotate the pinion while I pry, if I still can't get it out. That's only happened once or twice that I can recall over the years.

Re: DIFF CARRIER WONT COME OUT OF GM 10 BOLT
CAPS IS STUK. KEYBOARD IS FUBAR.
CARRIER CAME OUT WHEN I PRIED ON THE INSIDE OF THE RING GEAR WITH A BIG PRY BAR WRAPPED IN A RAG. USED THE CASE AS A FULCRUM. TITE IN THE BEARING BORES BUT IT CAME OUT WITH SOME FORCE. NOW ALL I NEED TO DO IS FIND A SPLITTER THIN ENUFF TO FIT IN BETWEEN THE PINION GEAR AND BIG CONE BEARING AND THE FIT BETWEEN THE CARRIER AND SIDE BEARING CONES TO CHANGE OUT THE BEARINGS.

KEYBOARD IS FUBAR
Then we won't all think you're being rude to us ON PURPOSE any more.
Cut the cage off of the bearing; put the splitter of your choice on the newly exposed flange.

Re: DIFF CARRIER WONT COME OUT OF GM 10 BOLT
I usually take a medium pry bar and put it behind one of the ring gear bolts and carefully lever on the housing (sometimes with a piece of wood at the fulcrum so it doesn't mar the machine surface) to get the carrier to pop out

Re: DIFF CARRIER WONT COME OUT OF GM 10 BOLT
Thats what I was thinking. I have a small pry bar and a oversized one, so I’ll have to go find a medium sized one. Thank you

Re: DIFF CARRIER WONT COME OUT OF GM 10 BOLT
The long one should work, unless it's just too long to use in your situation. Try the short one first like I suggested, it shouldn't take too TOO much like I just said before it pops out.

Re: DIFF CARRIER WONT COME OUT OF GM 10 BOLT
Thats what I was thinking. Watching other people do it and all it seemed to either roll out or just take a quick pry. I spent three hours trying to figure out how to get it out and it hardly budged. The big one works, but I have a hard time getting leverage since it's like 3ft.
