T5 installation Re Enforcing the fire wall?

Well it's done except now my guy is saying the fire wall is flexing that is why the peddle sucks.

I understand it but isn't there a reenforced place to mount the master cylinder in the firewall? I have read alot of forms and I havent read where anyone reenforced the firewall.

He already had to take it out to shim the clutch I just hope he knows what he is doing. A

Any one out ther ever have to do this?

They will all flex some. Hadmany cars where the mastercyl can be seen moving some while pumping the brake I wouldnt worry about it

Re: T5 installation Re Enforcing the fire wall?

There should be 2 brackets, one from each end of the pivot bolt to the firewall, for precisely that purpose.

That's all that's really needed.

If those brackets aren't there, get some.

Should be no need to "shim the clutch". Not sure what that even IS, but then, I'm something of a n00b, only put in 50 or so clutches over the last 40 years so I freely admit I have lots to learn. But... sounds like you'll be spending ALOT of time on here asking about "my car does this that the other what's going on?" and we'll only be able to guess at what was put together wrong. I hope not; but at this point, doesn't sound good for the home team.

Did the hydraulic system get bled out? If its spongy, its probably got air in the system. Your guy makes me nervous based on what he's already done and what he's recommending.

Re: T5 installation Re Enforcing the fire wall?

Thanks everyone. He is a professional I sure hope he has done everything rite. I'm taking the car back today done or not.
I sure hope I don't need to take the tranny out again.
I doesn't feel like the clutch is pushing on anything. I don't know if it is disengaging anything I haven't tried to put it in gear yet.
I sure hope he surprizes me and gets it done today.
For my info how dio you bleed the system? I do brakes all the time. I have a power bleeder but some how I don't think I can use that.

Re: T5 installation Re Enforcing the fire wall?

Well my tranny guy didn't put in the braces on the inside. No wonder the fire wall was flexing. Good call I will see tomorrow if he has it rite.

Re: T5 installation Re Enforcing the fire wall?

The car is on the road. Boy is it fun with one or should I say two problems.
Tne netural safty switch doesn't work and the back up lites don't work.
I* know from what I got out of the T56 swap the wires are in the center consol. The 2 thicker ones are for the clutch rite and what color are they? and what about the reverce lights their there too. I just run pigtails to the clutch and to the switch on the side of the tranny rite?

I want my swap to be rite. It is running real good and that is befor I put a chip in for a 5 speed.

Now I just need a shifter ball.
