who owns or has built a "bullet-proof" 10 bolt??
i'm looking for a new rear, something that will hold up to low 12 sec passes (just to be on the safe side....) and after finding $2k price tags on a complete 12 bolt, i see that you can rebuild a 10 bolt w/ high quality parts for about $1k. will these hold up to long term abuse? i only get to the strip 3-4 times a year, but i do beat the **** out of my car on the street and i'd like to launch w/ some drag radials when i go to the track. i'm thinking about an auburn HD posi w/ yet-to-be-named 28 spline axles, richmond 3.42's and a stud-girdle type diff cover. minus the axles, everything comes out to $750 from jegs (inc. install kit) plus labor, i know a guy that sets rears up (just dont know his prices). so say i spend $250 on axles plus $200 labor, thats $1200...would it be worth the savings to go w/ a takeout unit from slp? i believe they're goin for about $100. anyway i've strayed from my original question to those that have done this, and thats simply what do you have and how are these holding up??? sorry for the rant...and thanks

I think your plan will work as long as it's set up properly. I'd pass on the slp take out though, they take them out for a reason-to install the stronger torsen. The torsen's are good for road racing but not the best choice for drag racing durability.
You also want to think about the future of the car, are you going to make it faster? if so it might be wise to spend the extra $800 to get the 12 bolt instead of spending $1200 now and another $2000 when you decide to go faster.

My best times (below) are with a 10 bolt and 4.10 gears. I only switched to a 9" this winter because I also went with a transbrake and didn't think the 10 bolt would survive for very long.
