85-90 EGR Valve, What REPLACEMENT GM issued part number?

I'm in need of a GM replacement issued EGR valve.
For 1985-90 model years 60* engine
What part number ya get?
What price ya pay?
THANKS!
I was warned to stay away from part store brands due to generic one size fits all (they use "fittings" for flow) as they tend not to function correctly.

NOW I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY I WAS RECOMMENDED & NEED GO TO DEALER FOR THIS PART!
Generic over the counter stuff is generic.
Me?
I'd probably be unlucky & get wrong application.
I'm scouting local dealers to see who wants my business before I send the bucks to GM Parts Direct.com

is this a digital egr valve? i need a new one but im not going to pay 200 dollars for a new one, so im looking through some junkyards. will any valve from a 3.1L work?

I feel for ya.
CHECK ALL VACUUM HOSES FIRST cheap fix!
Remove EGR & check for excess carbon & remove by picking our carbon.
Second
Go to 4th Gen F "3.4 POWERED" Bodies cause their EGR are the same I believe, confirm this by playing with GM parts Direct.com. Feed it requests/info for rides & see if part numbers are the same.
NEXT FWD 3.1 rides MAY WORK ALSO!
Same theory, feed GM parts direct.com info & see it it returns same part numbers.
NEXT find your subject at wrecking yard.
BUT how ya know if that part is good?
ME?
I tried that theory (a $3 experiment) I was met with failure.
I'm buying GM new. No choice.
I know yours ain't cheap! I feel for ya.

I was informed this from GM Parts Direct.
Their response of the details
Who'd know about two part numbers for stick or auto!
Ii was awaiting ANY response to atleast go forward.
Next week I call local dealerships to see hear who wants my business.
WITHOUT your inital help I'd never know until a short time ago when GM parts direct responded.
Started removing cabinets & such today in other house. Was quite fun!
Bummed, lawn mowner didn't initally cooperate to be taken over to other house to mow the lawn.
Of course, later on, I made it start!
Atlest Monday I hear it will be cooler. It was in the 80's today! I mow lawn, then!
Yeah, SoCal Weather.
Funny my GM Van Nuys built car in my Van Nuys house driveway! How fitting!

I got my EGR today.
The part number for the 85 Model year is
17110800
AC Delco Number is 214-5316

NOW the number on the top of EGR says
17085914 (THIS is what I meant by the EGR top number not being the correct current part number).
And the top of EGR is shiny copper.

AS LONG AS MY CAR IS SMOOTH RUNNER no big deal!

I paid $33 & not thru GM Parts Direct.
Local vendor wanted my money. Happy to give it to him!

Have you tried to check all other causes for a weak EGR signal?
I wish I could save ya the more money with that tip!
It hurts but perhaps my tip can save ya the dough,
Give it a shot!
PS My EGR is mechanical, it is doomed to fail.
Yours is electric and they rarely fail.

im pretty sure mine is still working fine, just that one of the bolts snapped so its leaking exhaust. whats the weak egr signal your talking about? im not throwing codes or anything, as far as i can tell the actual valve is fine, just a small exhaust leak where the torx screw snapped.

Let me offer this
IN MY EGR SITUATION
it's controlled by engine vacuum.
That vacuum signal causes a spring to release this assembly inside the UFO looking thing to allow exhaust gauses to REENTER the throttle body to make a COMPLETE combustion process of EXHAUST BYPRODUCTS to LESSEN THE N. OX. (nox) fumes (in CA this particle of combustion process contributes/causes SMOG).
Help so far?
IN MY INSTANCE the EGR is attached to exhaust manifold. 1985 model year.
This is the reason why the thrid gen DON'T HAVE headers & V-8 (larger demanded market) do & S-10 Blazers (simple design) DO & Fieros (simple design) DO HAVE STREET LEGAL HEADERS. V-6 our engines have small weak market & no demand & now add a fancy product and ya get extra money & extra cost to pass along & no true profit for manufacture, etc...

So far I explained theory, and in my instance the location of the EGR.

I am NOT SURE where your EGR is located.
BUT the engine vacuum signal controls how much EGR action is required. As I always state ENGINE VACUUM SIGNALS ON THESE MPFI RIDES MUST BE 100% LEAK FREE or ya gonna run into trouble, somewhere.
You're telling me you do not have a secure attachement thus your EGR is history.
TO ME....
Remove the item and have a hole drilled-helicoil it (that can't cost $200 labor!) or tack weld a bolt to top of cracked bolt in your fitting & remove it, simple in theory. You only you know the execution of the mechanics.
IF your EGR is attached to exhaust manifold, go find another at a wrecking yard. I have found them on the ground! in my local yard. I may even have a pair, send me an email. I'll send ya pic back what I got.
AS AN FYI my 1985 Firebird, is using the 1995 3.4 exhaust manifolds.
I never swapped them from one 2.8 motor to the 3.4 motor. New 3.4 manifolds on the 3.4 motor bolted right up to exhaust of my 1985 Firebird exhaust system.
I know my 1995 3.4 motor uses the electric EGR ya refer to. I know I didn't use it. I have it for my 1995 SFI conversion in my Blazer.
Does this give ya some help?
Again I don't know 1991-92 3.1 mills all that well. I'm learning, here, too & sharing the wealth.
We give away money too much some days, I love giving away ways to save money for our own fun (while we still can have some fun!).

Took a drive & said a prayer!
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE DIFFERENCE!
IT'S INCREDIBLE FOR ONLY $33 BUCKS I GO RID OF THE PROBLEM & I GOT ME A BUTTER SMOOTH RIDE AGAIN!
NOTHIGN SHORT OF INCREDIBLE
IT'S INCREDIBLE HOW THIS PART CAN CHANGE A RIDE FROM "CRAP I'M GIVING UP" TO "GIVE ME THE KEYS! THIS RIDE IS INCREDIBLE!"
I can't wait to get it on the highway & see how it feels again!

I am having the same problem with my 3.1L 1990 Camaro. I believe my EGR was rebuilt once, and now I believe it is either time to replace it or check the vacuum lines. I'll have to consult my shop manual when I get home. Shoot if I could score myself one for $33 I'd just go ahead and do that, but $200 I think I'll check a few things before making that sort of investment.

Something I've learned about parts & prices
More expensive the part more unlikely it is to fal.
Meaning check what could cause the part to receive a bad vacuum signal.
AND 3.1 FWD EGR ones are available in the yrad often!
I also removed my freeway stumble by replacing this EGR, too.
SO PLEASED I had the trouble to find the cause.
AND my gas milage has increased, too.
Hope your cure is simple!

I happened to have the issue of Chevy High Performance and I read the article about the EGR valve and such, they said in there about taking a vacuum hose off and plugging it and seeing if that solves my problem. Can do i the same with the the digital EGR valvue in my 3.1L? Thanks!

no, there is no vac hose on the digital valves. only thing i can think of to see if the egr valve is the problem is to by a blockoff plate and install it and see if it runs different. not entirely sure on this however, but im sure there is no vac hose going to the digital egr valves.

Want me to ask my friend in Breinigsville for some leads on wrecking yards your way? He recently came back from VA for parts for his Van (AC Hard lines - He's doing conversion)
Seems to be confirmed that the 3.1 FWD & I do know 3.4 F Bodies also used what seems to be the "same style EGR".
Seems each "year" has their perks.
My 85 Firebird? Has that MAS below radiator neck hose. Your year is just one smooth freeflowing air inlet hose.
For my EGR test?
I ended up replacing it. That made all the difference, especially at freeway speed, too.
Plugging the end, made no difference in my problem.
AND to top it off, WHEN VERY COLD OUTSIDE AIR TEMP, my stumble is back!
Atleast it's warm in SoCal, now. It's been 90* and my morning stumble doesn't appear. It seems I got til long time to figure it out. Atleast mine narrowed down to cold engine operation with cold outside air temp.

Karl you think you can get me a digital EGR valve for 33 bucks lol.
who ever did the springs on my firebird before me cut the shackle and just bolted it back on so i hada get replacement shackles and they also used the wrong rear shocks on the poor car. I found a new color on the car it at one pont was Maze yellow then Candy apple red with allot of metalic then red.

I decided against it becasue her car runs and we need to sll it and i dont want to start messing with the engine and have something go wrong. I just got your voicemail on my cell phone i found it about a hour ago in my girlfriends car im going to refile the papers and repay the 22.00 since the letter would not be there by tommorw. I coppied the whole letter your wrote and sent them that. I will be in the valley friday working on my leafsprings i jsut gotta get my friends bench grinder to cut the new shakles.

They are the right size they just have more holes below the ones i need so im going to cut it off below the hole i need so i dont have 3 extra inches of holes. I would like to go to memory lane and get one jsut for fun since they pull the part lol that would be a fun project to wacth.

I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE THINKING OF GETTING & I STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST IT!
The originals have indents & shapes that are unique and are there for a reason.
DO NOT CONSIDER USING WHAT I BELIEVE YOU ARE THINKING OR LEAD TO BELIEVE WILL BE "GOOD" Option.
There is no true strength in that item.
Again, GM issued shackles for the First gen are unique.

I guess ill return that and go to memory lane and wacth them pull the leafspring so i can get 1 shackle and a bolt lol. The person at my work used to build hotrods and engines said those are allot better then the stock ones. they are allot thicker and heaver then the old ones. They are also what my friend had on his nova and never had any problems.
