Yep.. spinning alt fan.. it's running.
Is valve readjustment what finally got it going?

Yep, thats what eventually did it. Chilton's manual had the valve adjustment procedure ALL wrong!

I'm glad that FbodTrek did all the valve adjustments, I wasn't even there for it. Since both my cars are V8's, i've always adjusted them with the car running.

I consider the engine-off method as just enough to get it running.. even with these impossible-to-get-to V6s, valve lash is important enough to go through the pains of doing it with the engine running.. it's the only way to get it absolutely right IMHO.

Yeah, its so much easier without that V6 plenum and runners in your way
Anyway, with his exhaust setup on the car (2.5" all the way back) the car sounds absolutuly beastly. Most people would have to look under the hood to determine if it was a V8 or not.
Its going to be raining pretty hard all week here, so we haven't had much of a chance to "test" it yet

I plan to use the mpfi on 3.4 swap into a 92 s-truck,is there a certain year mpfi that would be better than another? Can the 92 2.8 tbi computer be used and did you have to use bigger injectors to prevent a lean condition?

Car: 85 firebird
Engine: Pos 2.8 pulled and replaced with a 350 tpi motor converted to carb.

If you have bolts and not studs in your valve covers you can remove them with the plenum on. You'll need some ext and swivels and need to remove the egr, alt . Its till a pita but i could not for the life of me get the valves right without the engine running and there was no way in hell i was gonna take the plenum/fuel rail off to get the vc's off then put the plenum/fr on to adjust only to take them off again to get the vc's back on...
good job. I cant wait to get my 3.4......:hail:

e-z, no the TBI computer will not work.
As for which mpfi year, its up to you.
2.8 is MAF ran
3.1 is MAP ran

hey i got a Q,
The 3.4 is dist less correct? And when you do the swap you use the 2.8 mani plenum fuel rail(3.4 injectors) and 2.8 dist. BUT since the 3.4 doesnt have a dist(from what i was told) what is in the hole where the dist should go?(on the 3.4) When i pulled my dist i noticed it went throught the back of the block rather than through the mani like on v8 cars.

Whenever the rain stops! LMAO. I can barely drive the car in the rain now. going down the highway feeder at 45, if I mash the accelerator slightly, the thing gets frisky when the tire (just one ) breaks loose and the car wants to go sideways... I didn't think the power change would be so dramatic! Spinning in third at 45 MPH!!! Rain or no rain, it was a rush-for a 6 pack anyway

Not to rain on the parade (really, awesome work! How'd you do the plenum like that?) but either a) your 3.4 is down on power, or b) the 3.1 + MTC-5 cam is putting down the same power you are because if I nail it in the rain in 3rd or 4th, it spins! I'm talking driving along at 60 mph and it's tractionless! 3.42s with 255/50/16s here
Might be able to find some more power in that 3.4!

Oh, I wasn't
I wasn't "nailing it".....It was pushed down to like 2/3 throttle, I've been a little spooked about gunning it . The motor is pretty close to stock, I got some plans in the work, the only thing affecting its performance now is a lightweight flywheel. Hurry up and build me a turbo Dow!!!! LOL

This is my Blazer carb'd 3.4 conversion.
Yes, this can be done to any year 3rd Gen V6 MPFI OR CARB'D without a problem.
IF ya notice the fuel line, it covers a "dark hole" in cylinder head. See Bottom left corner area, cylinder head, under Black valve cover.
That hole is the location of the Fan Cooling Switch.
The 5/16" blocked recessed plug (it's there when ya buy the 3.4) is removed from this location.

Hell no!
I ain't racing Steve in his T/A!!!!!!!!! I agree though, I reckon it would be a pretty even match with the lo3. Hey KED, you got a picture of your 3.4 before it went in, like a "complete" picture? A red block would look AWESOME under the hood..... I finished my wish list for add ons too:
SFC's
AFPR
Strut brace
Ignition Box (mallory, MSD?)
Aluminum Driveshaft (gotta scrounge one up...)
A bottle...
I'd prolly still get stomped by Steves TransDamnnn though....

From the ORIGINAL VEHICLE ENGINE YOU USE
The Induction/Ignition/Timing chain cover-oil pan-water pump-pullies (up to the 1987 year).
Leave on the 3.4 exhaust manifolds as they mate right back to the original vehicle exhaust system.
From the 3.4 you use the 3.4 INJECTORS (replace 2.8 ones in the fuel rail), 3.4 harmonic balancer 3.4 flywheel/flexplate.
DONE!
Pretty much that's what it comes down to.
Do a search for my 2.8->3.4 Long Block Swap Boogie Thread.
Every swap is a CUSTOM swap.
You create the end result by mixing this & that under the hood & no one knows what ya got.
Again don't expect to win every race, but lots more fun trying!
Damn car will pull like a freight train so much torque!
What I parts mixing I suggested is the easiest way to get the swap done & you back on road.
I have camera pictures not digi pic of the 3.4 before I installed. Sorry. I'll check but I really believe no on the request.

Isn't one of those passenger side headlights slightly out of alignment?
Really you ride looks great!
Now with the powerplant upgrade, bet it's much more fun, too.
Great photo location & usage of camera angles, too!
