Can a built 2.8L 60*V6 Camaro beat a mildly stock BMW M3 on a race course?

I voted yes, but it really depends on teh course. A tight, twisty one? Yes, I'd bank on your Camaro vs a M3. Hell, on a really tight course, I'd bank on your Camaro vs a C6

Lets figure the track to be the 2.8 mile roadrace course at California Speedway. It utilizes the entire front straight into the high bank 1&2 turn, then half way down the back straight it ducks into the infield and runs the twisties.

I think that'd be close. I know you've got a fairly stout (for a V6) 2.8, with superb grip, but I think you'll still get outrun on the stretch. I think the M3 will carry a higher average speed through the hi-bank turn, but once you're in the infield, I give the advantage to your setup.

Depends. IF you can match him on the sweepers, I'd give it to you (judging by how your car is supposed to handle). M3's do VERY well at AutoX here in Houston, thirdgens, even modded ones-not so hot. But then, I've never seen a thirdgen with the extensive suspension/drivetrain modifications that you have.

would that be a 6 speed manual or a smg m3.

i did my co-op work term at a beamer dealer this semester and got to drive them all day.

I don't know but wonder if you have brake ducts for cooling??? I think that would be helpful. If you able to run it harder, deeper and faster.

I cleaned his *** by about 4 seconds per lap. He couldn't touch me on the high bank but his straightaway speed left me high and dry. 4 seconds per lap is fairly major distance to pull on someone per lap in a average 1:30 sec lap time track.

Thats the only time we were together- on the first go round as I caught him back around the high bank and out braked him from 120mph down to about 40mph going into the infield. From here I was gone. We were both on street tires. Notice also in the sequence that I was inside track and a tighter line on this instance and I still pulled on him into and trough the corner. When I ran clean lines without pinching a corner, he really dropped back.

However, the best handling car in the world cant do anything if the driver behind the seat doesnt know how to control/handle it.

Thats a very misleading quote. They may be agile around town but a stock Z06 Vette eats then for lunch on a course like this.

There is in fact a guy out here with a brand new M3 that he strippedcompletely and turned it into a full blown racecar. It does decent, but there are many in its feild that eat it for lunch - here's the field of cars I am talking about in the picture below. These happen to be the fastest running "new" production type sports cars in the world- these are not tube chassis cars, they all came off the production lines and are stock frames or monocoque chassis that are braced with cages.

This was still with my crappy 10.5" front brakes, the Wilwood rears are on but not the fronts- yet- three more weeks and I'll have a few days off to install them. The drive home was miserable after the brakes cooled down. The nose is vibrating slightly when I touch them- happens every time with these little brakes.

The whole point of this post was to actually show with proof how my car handles. I think everyone for the most part assumes how an M3 "so call" performs, an M3 is a highly respected handling car for street use. I ate him up. Remember, thats not a grandmother out there drivng the M3 at 120 mph, the driver may not be great but is at the very least a good driver with track experience, better than most of you here can say about experience behind a wheel.
