My question is could an oild leak in a car cause bad gas mialege?
I have a leak and a full tank of gas is only lasting me 4-5 days. Which is about 200 miles. The leak is getting fixed today. Just wondering if this will give me bad mialege.

I'm getting 100 miles to a tank if I am lucky. I think my problem is a clogged cat.

Oil leak reducing gas mileage?

Not that I've ever seen. Maybe if this 'oil leak' were around the valve guides/seals, or the rings... ?

How can you tell if a cat is clogged? Hesitation?

My car has plenty of power but horrible fuel economy..I had a Catback system installed recently.Do you think the shop would have told me if my cat is clogged?

Drive your car at night when its dark, and keep the rpms up around 2000 and sometimes jumping on it. Just keep the car hott. Pop the hood. The manifolds should not be red, mine are Also I do have some hesitation with my car and the idle is a bit jumpy. Just feels like it has horrible power and its held up. You could always take your cat off and check? What kind of cat are you running? Any when was your last tuneup?

My idle is a bit jumpy also,mainly like 600-900 RPMS and back and forth....Im running a stock cat,Last tuneup was about a year ago.The only thing I did not replace was the fuel filter and differential fluid.

My idle is the same, between 600-900 rpm. Nothing more. Has a hesitation between 1000-2000 rpm. I can feel it and here it. The exhuast crackles also thats how i can tell. Last time it did that I had a bad plug, so i hope thats not an issue. I have Accel Plats. in there. Shouldn't be doing that at all. I'll take the cat off for now and run a straight pipe, if the problem is still there, i will swap plugs. I do not however think plugs would kill you gas mileage. I would say more or less your cat. You said its orginal? I think its time for a new one if thats the case. You could take it off like I am and weld up a straight pipe for the time being and see what happens. Then you have strict emissions like me, throw in a magna flow cat. Let me know how things turn out for ya. You sure you have a lot of power? Feel free to ask more questions

Why would timing be suddenly off? Runs good when cold, but warm, forget it Now its missfiring and bad hesitation. I think some of it is the cat though

eliminate everything that may be giving you the problem.

cut off the cat, try spare sensors, reset the computer, change the spark plugs. do all the cheapest repairs first


scrap yards often dont charge for sensors.
there is no reason why anyone on this forum -especially with a rescource such as this forum- should have to put up with a poor economy performing car

All sensors are pretty much new. Could the IAC do this? That is new to though. I plan to cut the cat off saturday and see if that helps. The car has absolutly no power now It does when its cold though. My mechanic had told me that i had to much back pressure to. Could that be throwing off the sensors? I understand when its cold the car runs off preset codes, does not go by the sensors. What you guys thinking. From full to empty i can get 120 pushing it

Glowing headers and bad MPG can't be a lean condition.

Though its so bad it should also be running so rich that it fouls the plugs out.

Call a priest maybe.

I think I have to much back pressure in the system. i'm chopping the cat off tomorrow so i hope that fixes it. Its missfiring like crazy now
