Spun a rod bearing... selling turbo kit to pay for engine

My brother spun a rod bearing in his 88 2.8 firebird with only 50K miles on it. the rear main seal leaked about a quart of oil per tank of gas since he got the car, and he let it get way too low on oil. I'm selling his turbo kit to pay for rebuilding the motor.

check out the turbo kit for sale

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...turbo-kit.html

The question is... is it true that I can just get a 3.1L rotating assembly and put it in the 2.8 block? I'm pretty sure a 3rd gen 3.1L rotating assembly will work, but what about a 3.1 from a newer car with the magnetic ignition (no distributor). Its hard to justify getting it from the junkyard though, only to find out its worse off than your spun bearing motor. with only 50K on the motor, everything still looks new inside. it always had the oil changed ontime, and fresh oil was constantly being added. it was my grandmother's car.

I'm also looking for a power steering pump bracket, I found it broken when I was taking everything apart.

thanks.
So all I (my bro) need is a 3.1 crank, 1 rod, a 3.1 master rebuild kit (w/ pistons)? What about a 3.1 harmonic balancer and flexplate? Or are they the same too?

I don't have a BOV on it, but I could slap an ebay reversion style unit on there pretty easily. weld a bung/flange near the TB and revert it in front of the turbo.

I've used two other ebay BOVs on V8 setups that worked fine except requiring lubrication every couple months.

my brother ordered a reman 3.1 crank. He needs to order a rebuild kit, and a rod. The last thing he needs is a cam. In an attempt to avoid too many tuning issues, I told him to buy something that claims to be computer compatible. This motor probably won't be turboed in the near future anyway... he just needs to get back and forth to highschool for now.

What is the approximate max lift on stock heads/springs? Can larger valves be bought/installed in the heads? I was considering a cam 212/212 .440"/.440" then putting some 1.6 rockers on it (putting up to .469"/.469")

Northern Auto Parts sells a complete rebuild kit with Speed-Pro Hypereutectic pistons...

Federal Mogul Rings
Federal Mogul recessed head Pistons
Federal Mogul Rod Brgs
Federal Mogul Main Brgs
Clevite Cam Brgs
Melling Oil Pump
Federal Mogul Camshaft
Federal Mogul Lifters
Melling Timing Components
Pioneer Frost Plugs
Victor Gaskets

They gave me a credit of like $30 towards a different cam when I bought my 350 rebuild kit from them. If they do that for my brother he should get the comp260H for $95.

That is basically the same cam I got from Delat for $100 w/lifters, IMHO is a good deal.

My brother ended up getting the cam custom ground through who ever Northern auto parts uses/contracts for $80. This car should be interesting to drive.

Re: Spun a rod bearing... selling turbo kit to pay for engine

since I repo'd his turbo kit, probably not, unless he can come up with the money to buy it back. otherwise, I'll wait till he can get the money for a new kit.
