3.1 L Headers
Does anyone make a header for a 90-92 3.1Liter engine? All I can seem to find is ones that fit 2.8 liter engines. Any suggestions will be helpful.

This has been covered a hundred times, but for the record: the 2.8, 3.1 and 3.4 have the same heads and take the same headers. If you have smog requirements you have a problem in that the 2.8 headers are not certified for use on the 3.1 (in California where I am for example). You can USE them, but you will be flouting the law, you madman you. The 3.4 headers will bolt up, but since they are designed for the 93-95 4th gen, one of them has to be heated and bent to clear the frame from what I have been told...
If you want to buy them from Pacesetter, just tell them they are for a 2.8 and they will supply them, no problem...
Pacesetter told me it costs about $100,000 to get the CARB certification for a set of headers and there are just not enough of us driving this boat anchor of an engine to justify the expense.

Well we are currently installing these on our 3.1L and are running into problems, the rear bracket that holds the alternator now wont work, and on the driver side the p/s lower bracket wont work. Oil Filter touches one of the tubes and the clutch line is close to the tube, from what I can tell it is plastic..... YIKES!!! Now what! Any suggestions will be helpful

well ive searched through and most people have left that rear alternator bracket off and I think I can modify the p/s bracket to work. This car has a/c too. I also read where the 2.8 uses a shorter oil filter than the 3.1 so that may cure the problem. Now the last thing is the clutch line from the master to the slave.. why did they make that out of plastic!!!!!

I put the 2.8 headers on my 3.1. I left the alternator bracket off. I used to peices of all thread and some lock nuts to use the power steering pracket. I use a K&N oil filter which i think is the longest available and it clears no problem, thouth it is closer then I like.

I modified the alternator bracket to work at one point. I ran it for awhile then took it off when I had the alternator out and didn't re-instal it. I have been running it that way for 6+ months.

I need a shorter oil filter, the one that is on there is too long. Its a purator, the one that the parts book reccomends. Any ideas on the hydraulic clutch line?

Check out Summit and order an oil filter relocation kit. Relocate it to the inner fender or firewall away from the headers. Simple. And get your headers coated to cut down on the heat...

When I had the Pacesetter headers on mine, i didn't reuse the P/S and alt brackets, and just run the shorter oil filter (for the 2.8) and you will be fine. I never had any issues with the clutch line on mine interfering. You don't need to relocate the filter, although it does make changing it easier...... don't do it hot lol. I was one of the first few to get those headers on here and ran them for years without any sort of issues with fitment or clearance.

Both alternator AND power steering rear brackets CAN be installed if you use studs and weld nuts on them in the proper places. Also, the rear power steering bracket has a bolt that goes into the engine block if you prefer not to use a stud in the header bolt location.
I use a PF52 (longer PF47) on my engine without issues. But I did wrap my clutch line in heat wrap because the lower end of it and the front of the slave cylinder are literally 1/4" or less away from the primary tube.
