Re: 7000rpm

Your rods are forged and rated for 7000 RPM by GM, they are the same rods as in the 3.4 DOHC and those guys spin past that but not much.

I'd worry more about oil pump cavitation, water pump cavitation, oil starvation, detonation, broken valve springs, collapsed lifters, wiped cam lobes etc.. then the rods

I would blow it to 9 grand on purpose just to get a better engine, if that helps.

Don't go past 5500 on a stock motor, for one thing there is no reason to, for another you will encounter valve float any higher.

Im not sure why'd you want to go up to 7k rpms, on a basically stock valvetrain, and those iron heads are crap in high RPM's unless you apply boost or n2o, then those heads really dont matter "as much"...

Sure that your tach isnt off?? Mine says its shifing at 6500Rpm but in all reality it shifts about 1k less then that. Datalogging proves that. But i knew a long time ago it doesnt shift that high...

Re: 7000rpm

theres no way his stock motor is pulling to 7k maybe in 1st gear were there is the least load on the motor.

and without oil pump and oil system mods even if it does rev that high it will only do it a few times

i had to do alot to make my motor reliable to 7,500 + rpms

cam
valve springs
modded lifters
shimmed presure valve in the oil pump along with some maching of the pump itself
ive logged a max of 8,800 rpms which was an accident during a burnout needless to say it wiped out my valve springs

normally ill spin it to around 7,600 max

The rev limiter set in the gen 2 tunes is 6212 RPM and the speed limiter is 112MPH. 89 Corsica 2.8 is a gen 2 engine, unless you put the stock memcal from your car in the 1227730 ECM in which there is no difference, rev limiter is still around 6200 RPM.

you won't be able to rev the engine past that unless it's mechanical like you drop the car in 1st at 60 MPH

Re: 7000rpm

Most likely the tach is off, and the biggest concern would be valvetrain, here and there by mistake isn't likely going to hurt anything, but I certainly wouldn't drive around winding it out to 7k all the time, eventually your valvetrain would give up. Not to mention splitting the lifter valley would be a possibility, though that would require a lot of abuse.
