What set of Tires should I get.

Well its that time again, my tires look like slicks and i need a new pair. I need ultra-high performance for all season (light snow too) and at least v rated +. I have been looking at BFGoodrich Comp T/A's and g-Force T/A's.... any other suggestions?

I would suggest the Firestone Firehawk SZ50s. These tires are awesome. I have 245/45/ZR17s up front and 275/40s in the rear. They hook up really good(better than any other tire I have had) on dry pavement, but they are flat out amazing in wet conditions. BTW, I dont think that these tires are gonna come apart like other firestone tires are right now!

17 inch ROH "ZS" wheels. 17x8.5(front) and 17x9.5 (rear). And just recently T56!

Firestone Firehawk SZ50...... all the way.

Have one set already & can't wait to get one more..... one of my GTAs has a new set of Goodyear Eagle GT+4s (which I like a lot), but the other one will be getting the Firestones.

I think the Eagle GT+4s have been discontinued in P245/50VR16, but they are good tires.

The SZ50s are very nice tires. Unfortunately, I just don't want to spend that much on tires.

I will be buying the Kuhmo ECSTA Supra 712. Kuhmo is well known for their road race tire (V700 Victoracer). The ECSTA tire can be seen here..

ECSTA Supra 712

245 50 WR16 tires are $86 a piece. In case you didn't know ... 'W' rating is for 168 MPH ... 19mph ABOVE Z speed rated tires

My GTA came with 16" wheels but when I purchased the car it had Enki 15" with 225 60 in the front and 235 60 in the back. My question is what size tire with the 15" wheels would be the same height as the orginal tire wheel combo? I would really like to change to stock wheels but the $250 each price tag is high.

Actually Z rated are for 149 and up, W is up to 168. Not that anyone really ever NEEDS anything that high. All the rating means that the tire can withstand and hour at their rated speed before the distruct from heat overload. There is something in the archives about it. I would go with Yoko A032R's in the front and Nitto drags in the rear. But they are quite expensive.

P215/65 R15 is what came stock on 15" thirdgens, but P235/60 R15 are the same height also.

I'm using Bridgestone Potenza RE730's on mine and so far I've really like them. Good ride, handle well, hooked at the track very good.

i got some goodrich comp t/a vr4's about six months ago. i am very happy with them. after years of goodyear gsc's i gave these a try. i gave up some handling that the gsc's had for a smoother daily driver ride. i have to admit i was getting tired of the car being upset when i ran over a caterpillar in the road. price wise, i saved a barrel of $$$$$. got mine from the tire rack. there are so many tires to choose from and twice as many opinions. good luck.

Personal opinion, but SZ50's are way overrated. From the ones I've seen, they don't hook any better than GSC's, and as far as profile, they're the skinniest 245's I've ever seen. As far as contact pad, you're much better off with a wider 245 like the GSC's. I know that makes little sense but it's definitely the case.

Personally, the best bang for the buck today is at Pep Boys. Pretty much all their tires are substandard except the Ultra Z series. Z rated with AA traction rating. I'm running them on the car now and they're great. $99 each and the wet performance is outstanding. I've never driven them in the snow so I can't say anything about that. The tread width is very wide with a great side profile and they hook like any other performance tire I've seen and used.

There have been a few comparisons and they run right up there with the SZ50's and the others in performance for much less price.

Yokahama AVS Intermediates!
These tires pretty much kick every other tire's but up and down the block except maybe the Dunlop sport 8000's. They are very reasonible priced and stick like glue. I have had the comp TA's, Road Huggers, Radial TA's, Raidal Euro TA's and a few others in my life. No comparison. I know because I used to do a lot of autocrossing.

Put my vote down for Yokahamas. I've got them now and I like them better than the BF Goodrich tires.

I have the pep boys special on my car...the gtxs, which are a pretty damn good tire for the money. i have seen a TON of guys that are FAST in the 1/4 that have the pep boys ultra-zs. i guess from what i hear they are really good. and for the price, they can't be beat. just be careful of the idiots at pep boys. they have a tendancy to screw up even simple tire installation. i won't go into details, but i had a nightmare with them.

YOKOHAMA S-306 are pretty good for street tires they are a 1 ply side wall which help hook up and are a softer compound i've got 255 50 15 on the back of my car and my buddy chad has them on his 12 sec(12.73@109) 93 Z , he can manage a 1.72 60ft. time on those tires with a 6 spd. needless to say they hook just do a meaty burn out to break them in, however if you have a stall like i do (2800) it still a challenge to launch off a stall and not kill them they're only radials! but they do work on my friends Z. and they under a 100 bucks a peice.

I'm very please with the new Yokohama A520's. I've only been running them up front, and it was also a change downsize in tire size from 275's to 255's. However they were extremely smooth riding tire, and have a nice firm sidewall (as opposed to Goodyears). I like them as much or better as the GFG Comp T/A.

I've even been getting great wear from them. Still alot of tread there after 10 months. That was my normal life expectancy with even 275's BFG's.

Try Hercules tires. I have em, cost about $110 apiece. They are as good or better than the original Goodyears. They're also made in America.

I got a flat one (Hercules G3000V 245/50R16) at the front passenger side, was trying to impress a girl not looking at the road and talking to her checking her great bod... chewed the pavement with the tire wall, made a big hole.... All in all, Hercules G3000V tires are really good if you're looking for performance tires, great V design, love em.

Bridgestone RE750 best high end (Mid range)tire for the price.

Kuhmo's suck for high speed stability in my opinion, I've had F1's on my SS and the RE750's are much better, they corner well, wear pretty good, and are stable, only draw back is that they are kinda loud as they wear. I have Kuhmo 712's on my Iroc, they are good for the price, wear well for your$ but high speed grip/stability is weak- to me they seem to handle more like a V-rated tire. Scared to drive fast with them, they ride pretty good though. people need to come to grips with the fact that Kuhmo is a low end tire, they are not "awesome" as some people have called them. If I were low on funds however, they would be the choice. For me the F1's wore out very quick for a 300A tread wear tire. And I don't abuse them.

Man, now that's a loaded question! Evervbody has their own favs and opinions. I just went through this a couple months ago. Whatever u decide, somebody will be critical of yur choice!

Evaluate your needs/ wants--get as much info as possible--look at reviews/surveys such as on tirerack website, and get whatever you think is correct!

I can tell U that as far as retail outlets (which I checked with as least half a dozen) Discount Tire was the most knowledgable and most accomidating that I ran across. If U go with a "mail order" source for your purchase, be sure and factor in shipping, mounting, balancing, road hazard policy, ETC when comparing bottom line prices!

I would like to add a vote to the firehawks SZ50's. I previously had the comp t/a's you are considering and let me tell you the difference was amazing. EVERYTHING except price was improved from the t/a's. Road noise, traction dry and wet, wear, looks, handling, ect. As I said, they are expensive though.

Here is a trick regardless of what you decide on. A number of tire distributors, at least in my area, advertise "the lowest price in town" or "will beat any price". Well the truth of the matter is that they all can't have the lowest price in town. I got around a 45% discount on the asking price of those SZ50's by getting two of these companies to battle with each other. It basically took a few phone calls to each telling them where I can get them cheaper and for how much. Give it a try.
