well, I'm running pretty wide American Nitros on mine, and have no real issues. Course, I have 225-50s on the front, and 255-50s on the rear.

as for tech content in "this thread". It's a technical example of WHAT NOT TO DO!

You'll need to run spacers, 2" I think but don't quote me on that

Holy big azz rims Batman!! That looks goofy as heck. I bet that car will barely get out of it's own way with those heavy things on there. They probably have to get out and push it to get it rolling again after they stop at a red light!
Looks like someone is trying to compensate for something.............maybe just a little?

Re: wow, just wow..

I could never understand the Reasoning in buying wheels that size for ANYTHING. Here are some reasons that i can think of that make having wheels like that a bad Idea:

-They're VERY VERY Expensive
-You have to Jack up the car essentially ruining it's center of Gravity and making it handle badly
-Tires are VERY VERY Expensive
-The tires are Fragile
-You have to Drive the car gingerly to keep from ruining the wheels or loosing control of the car.
-It looks WRONG

Why would anyone intentionally put themselves through all this hardship? Most of the time the car is worth less than the wheels are. This is like using the living room couch for a bench seat in your car. it's too big and unwieldy to be practical. Besides, putting something like that on a Caprice or LTD is one thing, but WHY on a Camaro. That makes ZERO Sense

I disagree with this statement! Especially when the acoustics is great for it.

Nice. He just took all the performance out of that car. I thought you got a Camaro for the handling abilities, not to drive over small children and animals without hitting them.

I was at the Junkyard today and there was a little car with 12" Wheels on it. They were stock. It was like a Festiva or something. That would be cool. Maybe build a Camaro with some Trailer Wheels or something. Just to thumb your nose at all the Tall Wheels/Short Tires Gangsta Crowd. We could make Short Wheels/Tall Tires the Nerdy Crowd. The only problem is that wheels that short are pretty narrow.

The cost is exactly why they are popular. With certain groups of people, the perception of wealth is a huge attraction. That's why the same people that have ridiculously expensive wheels on their POS car also have expensive clothes and gold plated teeth and a bunch of other silly crap that they can't afford.

Please don't give that crowd any ideas in that direction or it will be one.

I remember when curb finders, static strips, carpet dash pads and the little ***** hanging down across the windshield were the thing they done.

sounds like ur mad cux ur not in the position to waste money on stuff like that.. if they spend 5k on rims, $200 shoes to go with their 10k gold teeth and clothes... sounds like they can afford it to me. see what most dont see is, not all are into the motor game. they want to be seen and be flashy. the amount of money they spend in there pos car could be spent and get the new car you wish you could afford.

Re: wow, just wow..

You don't need 5000 dollar rims to be seen in a thirdgen lol. They get enough attention stock and clean, Save that stuff for '96 tahoes, crown vic's, and other generic looking cars.

And theres plenty of cars that look good with 20-22 inch rims.. like 94-96 impalas for example, But thats a car with big wheel wells and it just "fits". Although you should also accompany the bigger rims with a drop, not hike it up 10 feet off the ground and put wheels bigger than a semitrucks on it.

But a thirdgen is not one of those cars.

Sad, this thread was finally dying

Stock rim... ok...
Bigger Stock rim... better handling...
Even Bigger aftermarket rim... look nice, better handling, rougher ride...

I can understand a bigger rim if you have a race car (with a nice track) but public roads are full of holes / bumps / curbs, etc...

Those wheels showcased above? I think the mere point is to flaunt the $$$ you spent on them... Never understood that (add Rolex watches to the list)...

Having tons of $$$ and buying whatever you want never impressed me... I would have people come into my shop saying their stereo system cost $5k and they didn't know a thing about it... I'm more impressed with the guy that spent $1000 and did the work himself and knows all the ins and outs of it...

It's just my opinion that there's no better way to RUIN a perfectly good car, ANY car, than Jacking it up and putting huge wheels on it. It's STUPID. What is the thing with giving those cars advertising themes now too? Here in shreveport i've seen Oreo Cookies and Hawaiian punch among others. Are they making money off of that advertising, or do they have to pay for defamation?

.

they show out 4 females and dudes who wish they could afford it.. some do it just cuz they can and want to. alot of em dont have to worry about a price. like the guy on 26s. wanted to be the first 3rd gen on 26s and was. case closed. cars like 3yrs old also. never said i likes it. i think 22s with frop looks the best. i think you should fill well up with rim not tire but thats me. i dont see 3rd gen as race cars anyway so fillin with tire is pointless. folks say the same with vetts as you all say about his car. spent money in wrong department.

I see those same cars here on a daily basis....like an earlier poster said its all about bein flashy...I had an 86 caprice that i sold to get my camaro...all my friends wanted to see me put 24s or 26s on it. even though they look ok on SOME cars Id never go any bigger than 22s on anything....definately not 26s...on a camaro...

actually... i have some friends who did this... and the truth is they really cant afford it... its not us complaining that we cant afford to drop money into our cars.. its us (or most of us) wondering why its so appealing to go into dept over something that doesnt benefit the car... i guess i'll just never understand..

if u listen to the car as its pulling out of the parking lot he does spin the tires a lil bit and as hes pulling away the car does sound nice.. im suppriesed that the car could spin those big wheels... but it was a nice car minus the wheels.. put some nice 18 on there and it would look great

Actually, troll, I don't even know Jim since he lives in Vermont and I live in Indiana. I guess state abbreviations escape your high class knowledge though.

If you can't figure out his statement that you re-quoted, you're probably part of the culture he is talking about.

Re: wow, just wow..

You're reinforcing plenty of stereotypes my riding bigger than 20's and talking like you do. This thread should be locked.

Ive seen broke people have big *** rims and tv's and ive seen people with plenty of money drive stock. It doesnt matter.

BTW, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw96SfX0rXA . This orange camaro looks good with 20-22's i believe it has, not to sure.

But that green camaro from the OP, doesnt.

Re: wow, just wow..

^^^ how am i sterotyping? he stated those who ride like that have golds, broke, etc... im sayin i ride like that (not 6s on a maro though) and am not what he described. i just dont see how you call someone broke when they riding big rims or cant afford em if they bought em..

You seem to state that as an authoutative and knowledgeable expert about the subject. If that's your thing, to each their own.
Unfortunately, I just understand the point Jim was making, which you obviously, do not. I have no other obligation to agree or disagree with his statement.

Ignorance is bliss though. Enjoy your paradise.
