The heck with spacers....Which Rushforths?

I am saying the heck with going the spacer route and getting me a set of Rushforths and Baer Brakes. If you are going to do it, do it right! I need some help picking a wheel. I am going to have the centers painted black on either wheel but help me figure this out.

18x9 Fronts on 275/35/18 Nitto NT05's
18x10 Rear on 295/35/18 Nitto NT05's

Baer 4 Piston 13" front and rear

What do you guys think?

Going on my Black 1989 Formula 350 (Petunia)

Not sure if the Trooper is an option, but it is the Rushforth wheel I am in love with. Jason is such a solid dude and will give you his design opinions on what size color combo etc... to make your car look the best with his wheels... BALLER btw

@ BADNBLK

He seems like an awesome guy. I'm actually getting my brakes from him as well. When I stated this project I was going to keep the original wheels and brakes....but the engine started as some bolt-ons and turned in to a stroker. Might as well go ***** to the wall with her.

My old Petunia is going to be better than ever.

Re: The heck with spacers....Which Rushforths?

The only issue I have with all these wheels is getting the correct backspacing and offset specs so that they end up looking like the ones in the pics on those cars. We all know the 3rd gens are a beotch to get nice custom wheels that have a deeper lip in the rear then the front without having the front wheel stuck so far inside the wheel well.

Actually its not to hard at all. By the time you make the back pad on the front wheel large enough for a modern flat style wheel to cover the spindle snout, you end up with a pretty small lip. And the rear lip ends up roughtly 1" larger than the front. Of course you will not get the 4-6" lip some of the Pro Touring guys are running. At least not without some more involved modifications.

So if I understand your post correctly, you are basically doing exactly what a spacer is intended for. The way I see it, and someone correct me if I am wrong, but the only way to get "that look" above is to narrow the rear end slightly and move the spindle location outward slightly on our cars

Just look at the lip on the GTA wheels. The fronts are deeper then the backs.

Re: The heck with spacers....Which Rushforths?

I'm not sure of the specs.... Jason is handling it. I ordered Baer brakes from him as well. I believe that changes things a bit. (at least in the rear) I trust Jason's judgement when it comes to the final specs.

Bottom line, I'm a business man and he builds wheels for a living. He knows the car, knows the wheels.....there is no doubt in my mind that when they arrive they will be perfect.

I will get pics up this weekend and as soon as I get the car back from the engine shop... Cant wait to see that stroker under the hood myself!

Oh....and I went Rated-X! Black centers with polished lip.... Should look mean if you ask me.

The fronts are "deeper"/have a different offset than the backs so they don't rub the strut(correct me if i'm wrong)...if you've ever tried putting a back wheel on the front, you'd know what i'm referring to. I have 18x9/35mm/2.75" lip on the front of my car, and 18x10.5/20mm/4.25" lip on the rear. The front, I did need a 1.25" spacer. As 87350IROC said, the hub was an issue, till I put the spacers on. The rears fit perfect, minus some fender massaging with a hammer, no spacer needed.

Back to topic... I say go for the Rated-X. They look good, and you don't see those on 3rd gens. Plenty of 3rd gens with the mesh style wheels, including me.

These wheels are being custom made. No spacers will be required.

I hear ya. But there is a ton of knowledge on here. In my opinion I would get the specs from Jason and share here. It just makes sense on a $2k+ purchase. I see this all the time on other forums where wheel sponsors are common. Occasionally the wheels come back and the customer is unhappy.

Make sure you also understand the lip sizes. You will not get the lip size seen on that first gen. And finally the front spindle clearance.

Just trying to help, I have been down the custom wheel route and there are a lot of considerations.

No, that is not what I'm talking about. A couple of considerations.

Aftermarket brakes will widen your front track which reduces the front lip.

Our spindles stick out very far from the wheel mounting surface. Modern wheels have a very flat surface in the center hub area. Whereas old school wheels have a snout that covers the spindle. For this reason the back pad needs to be thick in order to cover the spindle. This again means a reduced front lip.

On the rear. The OEM rears are tucked in a little more than I like. So right there is a opportunity to increase the rear lip. Plus there is no spindle to deal with or extra brake thickness.

At the end of the day I ended up with a 2.0" front and 3.0" rear lip. Lots of considerations.
