well I got another one for ya... Penske Auto Centers.

I worked for them for 3 months. In that time period I saw the store manager refuse brake jobs because the customer did not want to replace the calipers. Thats rediculous, I mean who replaces their brake calipers every brake job?. That gets expensive VERY quick. Anyway here's the kicker.

About 2 months before quiting the manager sold a set of tire ot a guy with an escort. Ok nothing unusual. About 7 weeks later 1 tire comes back. The customer had rotated the tire's around and found a faulty one. Again no big surprise there huh?. Well about 6 days later the manager decides to sell the tire again, AS NEW!. Well thats was the deciding factor for me I would not tolerate that. I told the manager to replace the tire or I would inform the customer and also tell the customer to go to the Attorney General's Office about 2 blocks down the road.
Well the Manager did not like the way I was "threatening" him and told me to watchit or he would fire me. Well the customer came to pick up the car and I left a note on the situation and what to do. I also spoke to the customer on his way out of the shop.
The manager saw me speaking to the customer and fired me on the spot as soon as the customer left. I left and called the corporate offices and went to the head regional manager for the east coast in about 2 calls. Remember that I live in Illinois(along way from the east coast). They informed me that I was not fired and to go back to work. I did for about 2 days then quit, I refused to work for a company that allowed their manager's to do that to customers. And what ever happened to the manager you ask?, he's still there ripping off customers on a regular basis.
Although 3 of the 5 mechanics that worked there quit....Hmm seems I was not alone huh?...

Anyway I just wanted to warn of this place as well....

Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP

I got one for ya about Sears.

I bought tires there about 6 mos. ago. Before I told the guy I wanted them, I asked him if they included the lifetime balance and rotation, FOC. He said "Yes". I asked "Even on my car?" He say's "Why do you ask that?" Me: "Because you can't swap front and rear wheels. They have diff. offsets. You gotta take the tires off, etc." Him: "Well I think they figure all that in when they "say" free balance & rotation." Me: "Find out for sure." 10 min. later: "Yes. It's still free for your car." Me: "I'll take 'em!!!"

Last week I went there to get that done. I called first to verify what I was told. The lady said "Yes. That's right." Of course it was a different guy when I got there and I explained the situation to him. He said "OK. No problem. It'll be done by 8pm." It was about 6:30pm so my wife and our 2 boys went to get the boys' hair cut.

My wife dropped me and the 9yr old off to get the car @ 7:30pm. I headed back to the waiting area, and ya know how they got that big window. Well I just caught the guy getting in my car to back it out. I noticed that the front end was still about a foot off the floor and he couldn't get the car to move. I rushed in there and said "Hey. I don't think you got the lift out from under the front end." He got out and looked with me, and the lift was out. I peaked inside to see if the parking brake was on. Nope. I thought maybe it was just a little "toe-in" at the bottom from being in the air. He tried backing it out again and he was hitting the gas pretty hard. The car didn't move. Then I clanced at the back wheels and saw them stickin' out about 1" further than normal. I said "Did you rotate the tires, or rotate the wheels?" Him: "The wheels." Me: "Did you take the tires off the rims?" Him: "No. Why would I do that?" I just about f-uckin' punched the guy. "YOU DUMBASS!!!!!!! Didn't they tell you how to do this car?" I went up front and *****ed like hell!!!

Then the guy up front is telling me that they do charge extra for my car!!!! I said "No ya don't, and your not gonna!!!" Him: "Well the guy that told you that was wrong!" Me: "Tough ****!!!!!! Your not charging me!!! It's not my fault if the guy don't know WTF he's talking about. And your gonna tell me this after I watched that other damn moron try to f*ck up my car??!!!! Him: "We won't charge you this time, but we'll have to from now on." Me: "NO YOUR NOT!!!! PLUS, your gonna check the front end alignment now, since Mr. Moron tried to remove my front struts with the damn wheels!!!!"

Next I had the store manager (dumb *****) back there. She told them (after 1/2 hr of arguing with them, then 1/2 with her) to check the front end. The service manager said "OK, but if it's outta alignment, then we'll have to charge ya." Me: "The hell you will. If it's screwed up, it's because of your guy doin' it." (I had them do alignment when I bought the tires. Only 3K miles before now) So finally the store manager said they would check it and fix it, FOC, but from now on I'd have to pay for rotation.

I guess I get to call the white collar guys and bitch. What a pain in the a$$. I didn't get outta there until 9:30pm and they close at 9. What a sh!tty way to handle a pissed off customer who SAW you f*cking up their car. Needless to say, they no longer have my business, for anything. Plus about 35 other people I've told now, not including this post. F_ck em!!!! Learn how to treat customers!!!! And they call that "Sears Automotive"? More like "Stupid F*cking Morons"!!!

I feel better. Thanx.

Pep boys has a really big selection of parts. But...There Customer service is the worst! I dont want to condem the whole chain, this is what happens to me and my wife in our town. But..I can go to Autozone, Napa, Discount, ect. They have the most helpful, and pleasant service.

When the service is bad like that it usually starts from the top. IM self employed an I know if you treat people right they will call you back. Its a small family business,so word of mouth is very important.I guess its the same with big companys.

Things have changed at PepBoys. I worked at the Va Beach store (Lynnhaven Pkwy) for 4 years. The customers were always treated fairly. I was always pissed at the stuff we accepted back even when it was obvious the customer was getting by. As for the bar in the clay package. What is a 5.00 item going to cost the store in terms of customer complaints. Look at the list already. Bad stock prices and failed programs (APD) eat into the stores budget as far quantity of and qualified people to run the store. I hope Mitch gets the message of these posts.
Unfortunatly most of the stuff from Advance and AutoZone are crap here so I continue to buy from the boys.
Didn't mean to make an excuse for these @#$ managers. Both should be fired (Definately the one with the tire.)

Heres 2 quick pep boy stories ihad a timing chain replaced there and when they finished things up they forgot to put antifreeze back in the radiator so im drivin home and realilized my temp gauge was goin up quick so i check the radiator bone dry.I called the service manager and there response was to bring the car back and they will fill it.I said to them think about what you just said to me.So isaid ok but when i blow my motor are you gonna replce it.Needless to say i dont havev any mechcanical work done there. The second thing pep boys just did and thank god it wasbnt my car is they brought a new vette in to the to put it on thye lift well they didnt have it on the lift solid and the friggin car nose dived in to thr ground and it totaled the car.
