How will the LT4 cam work on my car?

My mods are listed below, what do you think? The cam selection guide in summit says that with a duration of 221* to 230* that the ideal operating range is between 2000 and 5500 RPM, which is what I want. It sounds like a good choice.

L98 TPI 350 (5.7L)
TH 700R-4 Transmission with 2.77:1 Rear End

Current Mods: Edelbrock TES 1 5/8" Headers, Hooker Aerochamber Cat-Back System, Performance Resource Chip with 160* Thermostat, Accel Ignition Components, K&N Filters, All Free Mods, Falken ZIEX Z-Rated Tires.

Best ET : 14.3 @ 97mph

With that 2.77 rear end, it'll take you a LONG time to get into that powerband. The cam will work for you, but I'd get new gears first. And that cam needs to breathe, so you'll want a good aftermarket intake, and SLP 1 3/4" headers as well.

Kevin is right on the money. I'd also add a good set of heads to the mix. That cam isn't going to do squat unless you have better heads.

I think the cam would be a good upgrade along with the headers and intake, + the gear. Heads would be a good idea but "not gonna do squat" is a bit extreme.

I know that a high flowing intake set up and a good set of heads would definetly help me, but I dont have $3000 to throw around, I have only like $300, so its a cam now. My friend put an SLP cam in his TBI 305, and it took a good 1/2 second off with only a cat back and high flow cat, so I am thinking this cam will help my car by a good 1/2 second.

go with the cam swap first. Take her to the track and see how you like it. If it doesnt meet your expectations throw a set of 3:73s on. That should take care of the problem and definitely push you in the high 13s. I too am on a budget, I know how it feels!

Instead of the cam swap, Id go for a gear swap. You can find a complete, used rear end for a thirdgen car for just a little bit more than you have to spend. You will probably see more gain with this than the cam.

You should look for a 3.4x or a 3.2x 9 or 10 bolt rear. I would personally look for a 10 bolt 3.42 disc rear from a 90-92 LB9/G92 car.
