What type of headers?

I have a stock 1989 camaro irocz with the 350 in it. I want to put headers on it. But im not sure with what type to go with. I would like to get long headers and NOT the shorty style. But with long ones can they be direct bolt ons? So basically i would like to get all of your opinions on what type of long header (direct bolt on) would be good? thanks

To my knowledge there is no direct bolt on LT header.... Heck even most shorties require at least some cutting and welding.

You have all of 2 options in long tubes, Hooker or Headman. Headmans won't clear a factory manual trans(hyd slave cylinder), and the Hookers hang a little low for my taste. One way or he other, you'll be doing some "trimming" to get them in. But, as stated, you'll be doing some trimming to get just about any headers in our cars. - I do like my headman's though...I'd keep them if I wasn't going so drastic with the car(full frame, aluminum rear tin, coil-overs, etc..) My new ones will be hand built. - Mine are going to a friend...

As far as I know the 2055's are the only equal length shorty's out there....but don't quote me!

I love mine EXTEMELY easy to R+R! U can actually get them in and out without scratchng them! (if U are careful of course!)

Do you have to replace/get a new y pipe for the headman 2055's??

Well satisfied with my Edelbrock TES, but then again Hooker is probably the top name in headers. Be sure to get the Y-pipe that goes with the headers, that is a really curved and bent up piece. The TES has it with the header kit.

yes, you'll have to replace the y-pipe to go with ANY headers you get. - why wouldn't you want to? stock "t-pipes" are ungodly restrictive. - if you go shorty, I would say hooker...

Hooker 2055's "seem" to be the favored headers/Y-pipe on this board. No problem with fitment with mine. Those, along with a Catco high-flow cat and Hooker catback, are highly recommended.

The only thing I don't like about my 2055's/y-pipe is that the y-pipe just before it hoks into the cat, hangs pretty low and there's not much U can do about it. On my car it is lower than anything else and I just got thru replacing the y-pipe because some speed bumps got it and crushed it to about 1/2 the diameter of normal.

The pipe does hang a bit low, though I've experienced no clearance issues at this point. A lowered car, however, might experience some real difficulties.

LT's deffinitely take some work to get them in. Nothing major if you have access to a smoke wrench. I do believe they're worth the work, but just run a y-pipe and good cat-back. Duals isn't worth the work. You can make just as much power w/ a good single exhaust as you can w/ duals.

Id be willling to take that chance lol. The shorties are choking my motor up top, the paint flaked off the first time I started the car(ugly white color now) and the gaskets(flange) blow out all the time.

i have hooker 2055s and love them. yea the Y hangs a tad but i havent had any serious issues with that and im lowerd. i HIGHLY sugguest getting the Y pipe as i was waaaaay impressed with its design of flow where the pas and dr sides merge. i run a magnaflo cat and it slips right on. iv heard controversy about the catco but nothing direct.
my hookers are fairly easy to work around for headers and 2 of my friends bought the hooker 2055s because i was so impressed. one of our F.A.S.T. engineers bought a set for his camaro and was impressed how they went in without headach and no lifting of the motor. i put mine in with the motor swap and loved having no clearance issues of any kind.

PS, get them coated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hooker LT's
- the Hooker's hang to low if you're lowered(much) and intend on being able to ride around town. Speed bumps/pot-holes and primaries/collectors don't get along very well...
