not sure where to post this . so i think this is correct place . i had my rs on my nephews lift changing fuel filter ( always a fun job ) . as always you get fuel running down your arm , armpit , and side . my nephew said , uncle tom you better get home and get a shower or that gas will burn you . i told him no problem , wiped down my arm and side with a rag . i then picked up bottle of WD-40 and used it like right guard , ( yes i did left side also ) then wiped it off with a towel . takes the gas off and does not hurt you . my nephew is a 40 yr. old gearhead and said he had never heard of that . all you guy's close to my age may already know this , but some of the younger men may not . before anyone laughs and says no way , remember WD-40 is fish oil base . you may smell like a sardine till you shower but it works . hope this helps , IT DOES WORK !!! any old pharts out there to back me up ???

it's a lot easier to just not spill any on yourself but, thats definetly something i'll try next time i univitably get it on me. I hate gas smell it lingers on with u for days....

Oddly, gas doesn't bother me too much. I'd rather deal with that than brake fluid.

yeah, had that happen when i did my fuel filter, it didnt click that gas on the skin would eventually start to burn but it did lol, i did something similar but not, i used vaseline on my arm instead (horrible mess to clean off) but it served the same purpose, nice to know wd40 is my new skin product though

well i didnt know if anyone here really knew what WD-40 was made for....I forget the years but when it was made they got the 40 cause it was the 40th attempt to make it and the WD stands for water displacement, it was actually made for the goverenment to spary on there missles so they would not rust.....little history lesson.

Another use for it I've had good luck with is removing gum from someone's hair. My daughter got some in her hair and just a squirt of wd40 dissolved it into a soupy slime that I mopped up with a rag. Took about 2 minutes total.
Then my wife called me a dumbass and said peanut butter does the same thing, but hey, I'm a guy, we just think different. But anyway if you are allergic to peanut butter my way won't kill you.

A technique that I have come up with after many fuel filter changes is to keep your elbows higher than your hands to keep gas out of the armpits. my next idea im gonna try is placing a thick ballon over the gas cap to give it the "straw effect" like when you put your thumb over a straw in a glass of water and pull out the straw it will have water in it.

In the aviation world we use a product called LPS 1, it works a lot better than WD40 and has all the same uses as WD40.

I had my hands soaked with brake fluid after doing the hydraulic portion of my t56 swap and after I was done and wiped off the brake fluid I took a shower and almost immediatly my hands were pruned up they did that for a few days everytime my hands touched water.

that baloon idea is cool and all but it should be the same concept as keeping you gas cap in, it will just create a vaccum effect and if it wont hold with the cap on what good will the baloon do?? maybe im wrong but oh well


As far as the keeping out of the way, doesnt work too well when your 6' 2" and trying to squeeze under your car on ramps, not too much movement lol

When I changed the fuel filter in my truck, I tied a shop rag around my wrist, to keep the gas from running down in my armpit. It stopped the gas long enough to get the filter off.

I don't know if the balloon trick would do anything, wouldn't leaving the gas cap on have the same effect?
