yes , an engine needs to breathe . just like you , the better you can breathe the better you can perform . air in , air out , the easier the better . good luck .

Re: Hooker Headers

I would agree. The only thing is as far as power you won't get a big jump in power, but it will help.

Re: Hooker Headers

Here are my hookers (I love saying that) Versus my stock LG4 manifolds.

I just installed the headers today, and wow, the fit and finish is 10x better than the Hedmans I had on my T/A

Re: Hooker Headers

Those headers cleaned up my engine bay real nice after getting rid of all my smog equipment. Probably a 10 HP increase is a nice estimate on a 305

Re: Hooker Headers

I have hooker shorty headers and a hooker y-pipe and cat-back and I think it was a good investment. Not an incredible difference in power but it was noticeable, it also sounded much nicer. You can get rid of all the smog junk and pinch off the lines, just seal it all off and the only thing that will effect is your service engine light. Mine is on most of the time but it doesn't mean anything.

Exhaust is a good place to start on your car I'd go for it.

Re: Hooker Headers

Yeah mine wasn't actually as loud as I expected it to be after I connected my headers to the rest of my exhaust, it was pretty sweet driving it around with open headers for a while though.

Yes the shorties, i believe #2460 have the bung welded on close to the stock location but there is a plate blocking the hole you need to carefully drill out..

i just bought some hookers and a borla cat back. do i need to buy a new y-pipe or can i take it to an exhaust shop and have them do some custom piping? which do you think would be cheaper?

Re: Hooker Headers

I paid 175 for a custom y pipe at a local shop.. Ive read too many posts where a manufactured y was 1,2 even 3 inches off and they still have to take it to get customized.. biggest cost in custom building a ypipe is the collectors cost 20 -40 to weld on the y pipe.. which i think the hookers are 3"

Re: Hooker Headers

Dyno Don's headers and Y-pipe are far superior to any other short-tube headers.
They are 1 3/4" compared 1 5/8" of others. He custom builds them in his shop:

I hate to have to tell you this but when you live in CA there is no getting rid of your smog system.
CA smog laws are the toughest around and if you don't have every piece when he opens the hood or looks under the car you will not pass.
I have to replace my open element with the stock pieces and set my timing back to stock just to pass. It really sucks because it has tied my hands on what I can do .

Re: Hooker Headers

I have stainless steel hooker shorties and I would recommend them. Easier to install than long tubes and they produced a significant gain. Stainless is the way to go buy one set and they will last forever. As far as emissions stuff goes, lose all that junk if you can get away with it wherever your at.

Shorties will allow you to gain more torque. mid lengths will be a balance of torque and HP.

How do you think the 2460's will sound mounted to a SBC 383 with hooker y pipe 16767, and Hooker cat back 18620. Plus I'm running a new Lunati Bootlegger cam

I stand corrected. There is a man on this board that also built a CA smog legal system with headers. They must have a "CARB" number on them here in CA.

I believer the 2055's are emissions legal in Cali?

Also, if you search for the 2055's on summit's website, they now show ceramic coated, stainless and titanium coated.
