Re: Performance Chip?
Yah, don't waste your $$. Best to get it tuned first hand on a Dyno where they have a/f readings. Before my motor swap in my car I had the 350 w/Miniram, heads & cam. I only had 248 rwhp with the "Performance chip". I had a local dyno guy tune it from there and ended with 308rwhp.
I'm not taking away from Tuned Performance, I'm saying based on my chip that I got from this company that knew my set up first hand, it was a waste of $500. Its kinda hard to tune a chip for a car 500 miles away, my opinion.

Re: Performance Chip?
You two are totally missing the part where he said he has a 305 tbi, not a built engine or an engine with powerful bolt ons or power adders. Dozens of members here could tune that setup from 500 miles away. We already know what tunes work well in that engine. And unless they were a member of these boards I have never even met or heard of someone with the equipment or know how to tune the tbi or TPI ecms so its not like he can go to the local dyno and get it done. At least in the Chicago suburbs most dyno operators can only tune the GM LS and newer ford stuff. Its only beneficial to learn and buy into tuning if you plan on building and modifying engines and keeping the car for a long while.

Im sorry, I did miss that. I just saw "Performance Chip" and the first thing comes to mind is not to waste money. That was my experience, an experience that I have documented proof of with my TPI ecm and dyno print outs. I dont need proof, but hypethetically I guess if you can confidently say its been done and he can make a substantial gain comparitively from 500 miles, go that route. Probably cheaper than running dyno time & paying for tune if such shop was locally available. Would be cool (for the owner) to see the numbers though after tune.

Re: Performance Chip?
Im in the middle of getting a pcmforless tune. Going 180 degree stat. and also wanting to turn off vats. Running no air system. Free flowing offroad exhaust system All that good stuff I would think a tune is in need If your looking to change that stuff.
