Re: starter

I would say the best thing to do would be to remove it first and take it to the parts store with you so they will be able to match it up unless your car originally came with the 5.7 then the could just go by your make, model and year for the correct part

Re: starter

like I mentioned earlier remove it and match it up at an auto parts store if you don't know what the motor came out of i'm sure whoever did the swap probably used the original starter if you car was a v-8 from the factory

Re: starter

This is whats listed at O'Reillys Auto Parts and they are for over 270 different cars with a Gen 1 engine including Third Gen. Camaros. = http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...aro&vi=1035694
Sounds as if you don't want to change it out. Why wont you pull it and take it in tell them its for a Third Gen Camaro as mentioned . You can start from there.
Have them pull one for a 1982 Camaro, auto and a 1990 Camaro, auto.
It should be for one or the other.

One question I might ask here is = did the Turbo Transmission come with the same flexplate/flywheel as the 700r4 = What tooth count was used. = 168 or 153

Side note = I bought an Autozone starter and completely wrapped it in thermal cloth. Front and sides. That was over six years ago and it kicks every time.

I will be doing the thermal wrap on mine. It sounds like a good idea.

Re: starter

They make a already cut wrap especially for starters but it only wraps the outside. I bought the sheeting with an adhesive back so I could cover the front including the front of the solenoid. Just a hint. You don't really need to on peal all of the backing off because its very sticky and you will have a hard time getting it off if you have to. Just peel the backing off of selected areas to put it on .
Just to give you an idea as to what's out there. If this does not make it all the way around it should not matter as long as the side facing the "Y" pipe is covered. Plenty left for the front/etc. = http://www.summitracing.com/parts/the-13500/overview/

Then there's this. More than enough = http://www.summitracing.com/parts/the-13575/overview/

You should be able to find it local if you call around.
