PCMforless Thumbs up!

Got the custom chip yesterday, put it in last night and test drove it this morning. I am very happy, no more surging at part throttle and definitely feels like it has more power at part throttle midrange, Feels great at WOT! Not to mention they got the chip to me in 6 days! (I did pay for the 2 day shipping)

Amazing service on a great product!

Re: PCMforless Thumbs up!

I went to thier website they have 3 options. stock, heads/cam, and some other option.

They also do not offer anything for TBI cars. So TBI guys still have to use tbichips or dynamicefi.com for self tuning.

Just went to the website, and I have a question about buying a stock one. How much power can you really gain? or what can I expect? Is it worth the 150$ asking price?

Re: PCMforless Thumbs up!

PCMforless set me up with a custom chip last year and the car ran great, no complaints at all. Then I added headers and Y pipe and eliminated all of the emissions crap and my mileage got kind of poor and I had a CEL on. When I went to Florida at the beginning of March this year I took the GTA with me and stopped in at PCMforless on the way down for a retune, pulled out my ECM from under the dash and half hour later I was popping it back in the dash and on my way. My mileage went from 19-20 MPG to 22-23 MPG and it gained alot more power in the mid and upper range. Very satisfied with them and I plan to use them for a long time, especially now that they are associated with big shot dyno which is only 1.5 hours from me by Summit Racing.

It will gain you as much or more than a hypertech chip and it's cheaper, so those are 2 pluses. I'd say you'll gain about 10-15 HP roughly on a dead stock car.

I just checked the website and I don't remember them having 3 chip options when I ordered, but I'd guess I just have a stock/bolt-on chip as it is classified by them now. You just tell them all the mods you have when you go to order the chip (a form will pop up with all the options as your ordering) and they'll make it custom for you and anytime you make a major change they will reburn it for you for $50 bucks.

Re: PCMforless Thumbs up!

100% custom, You fill out this order sheet, a total break down of your combo.

http://www.pcmforless.com/index.php?...id=2&Itemid=43

After you fill out and submit that you pay for the chip, there are 3 options

Stock/bolt on $144
Heads/cam $189
Stroker $209

I got a heads/cam chip and paid for the 2 day shipping, that was like 24 buck so I basically paid $214

You lost MPG because you need to go to a heater O2 sensor when you go to headers to maintain the gas mileage. headers dissipate heat much better than the log/cast iron manifold's so the 1 wire oxygen sensor doesn't stay heated up. As for power loss, if you pulled your smog stuff and are throwing a check engine light you aren't probably aren't in closed loop again hurting mileage and power.

This could be true, but it depends on where he put the O2 sensor I think. I mounted mine in the collector of the header and I don't seem to have any problems. I have an OTC 4000 monitor and have verified I get closed loop and I get 22-23 MPG hwy.

Re: PCMforless Thumbs up!

My 02 sensor is right on the collector of the headers on the top middle. Well and on the loss of power its like I did throw a check engine light and it sucks bcuz I ran a 15.02 stock and then installed headers and 3" exhaust and now ran 15.56. I was wondering what you guys think is it the chip I need to help a little or is it the open loop that's hurting..if possible can you explain the open closed loop as I'm new at upgrading problems. Thanks

Number 1 thing is, what code is it throwing?

Open loop is when the computer basically reads from a bunch of set, non-changing parameters. It should only be in open loop when cold or when under WOT I believe. In closed loop it takes readings from all of the sensors and make changes as necessary to make it run optimally.

You stay in closed loop at WOT, If I remember right the computer goes to commanded fuel table (MAP or TPS vs RPM) instead of using the O2 sensor to control A/F.

If you are just throwing codes from having the emission's equipment removed, the chip should take care of that (if you put that in your order sheet) just make sure everything else is up to par and you will be happy with the new chip.

Re: PCMforless Thumbs up!

Hey guys installed the PCMforless chip today and my car is a whole other car now. It pulls hard and its awesome. But i know this isnt the thread to talk about it but the topic was already started. With out checking the codes would anyone be able to tell me what it is. The check engine light is on for most part of the time. There is time in the morning where the check engine light goes off or when i go full throttle were the light goes off. I know we were talking about a heater o2 sensor do you have a part number or do i use one from another year camaro. Thanks

AFS 74 is the 3 wire 02 to use.

Unless you can find some one who can telepathically communicate with the ECM and get it to tell them the Trouble Code, no you will either have to scan the ECM or jump the A-B port and have the SES light flash the code out for you.

If you use the AFS74, on the heater (black wires), you need to hook 12v switched to one side and ground the other side. Then you hook the signal wire (blue wire)to the purple wire on the harness. I hooked into the Pink w/ Blk stripe it's a switched 12v, powers the injectors and emmissions equip. Then I just grounded to the body.

I used this connector and wired it up myself.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MSD-8...d=237096807445

if you don't want to cut the 1 wire connector off the harness you can use this to connect to it.
