Stealth Ram questions
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
I am thinking of switching out my TPI intake on my 89 350 for this intake. I am just curious to know what is all needed to do this swap. I have looked up and looks like the throttle body needs to be changed from stock to a bigger one, and fuel rails need to be swapped as well. I do like the Professional products fuel rails that someone just posted for this intake. I am just wondering if there is anything else that is needed to do this swap and if there are any issues that I should look out for. It is a stock 350 with stock heads. I have looked around and found some issues with aftermarket heads but everything is stock on mine for now. Just looking for an upgrade. Any help from anyone on here is greatly appreciated. Thanks

they've got a pretty good list of what is needed. You can still use your stock 52mm throttle body, although it would be recommended that you upgrade. The HSR uses HSR-specific fuel rails that you can get from summit as well, I forget the part#. Check out that website, it's got a good bit of info

For 85-88 TPI cars and 90-92 speed density TPI cars there are a few little things you need to do, like where to put the MAP sensor or how to disable 9th injector but for the most part that thread i made should cover the basics. Thread Starter

Re: Stealth Ram questions
I already have a tpi car so I dont need the entire kit but thanks for letting me know. I already have a tpi engine and it is an 89 so it doesnt have the 9th injector, as far as I am aware. I also thought that I read somewhere that the 89's dont need to change the distributor to a small cap one since it has the coil mounted elsewhere instead of on the distrubutor. I could be wrong about this and if I am someone please let me know. Thanks for all the help. Also just curious to know what kind of hp gains it will get on a stock engine? I know it wont be much for now until I get a different cam, heads and a few other things. Just curious. Planning on down the road to put a supercharger on but that will come after an engine rebuild.

Re: Stealth Ram questions
yes, on your 89 the swap will be pretty straight forward. stock dizzy will work, and you dont need to tune out the 9th injector since you dont have one
No need to locate a map sensor either. Pretty easy swap
My car responded very very well to the stealth ram. Even on stock tune with just more fuel pressure and 2 degrees base timing, i put down 246whp/30x wtq. I added 1.6 rockers and pulleys with alittle more tuning with new injectors but was running very lean this time for some reason, and i made 254whp 315wtq
The best I've done at the track with the TPI was 13.63 at 97-98 in good air. HSR did 13.2's at 101 in similar air conditions. One day when the air was cold and high pressure, I went 12.95 at 103.8. Not bad for bolt ons!
I think you'll like the HSR

Re: Stealth Ram questions
One of the biggest problems is hood height with a stock hood. You have to do some cutting to the good to get everything to clear. An aftermarket throttle body helps, but trimming is still required. I do not know about after market hoods though. Even with some milling of the intake coupled with a aftermarket throttle body, a bit of massaging is required on a TA hood.

Re: Stealth Ram questions
Thanks for the post guys. It really helps. From what I have read didnt think there would be much of a problem with the switch with what I already have just like to hear it from others who have done it. I have also read about hood clearance but I have a 4th gen Ram Air 2 hood so I dont think clearance is going to be an issue but thanks for the heads up.

Re: Stealth Ram questions
Just a couple more things i need to ask. What size injectors would be go to go with the swap and also possibly cam an rockers? The heads will have to wait so I am looking for something to go with stock heads but something to compliment the HSR for a few more HP in the end. Future project with be a supercharger on it but that is in the future. Any recomendations from anyone is greatly appreciated. You all have been a great help so far on this project for me. Thanks again.

Re: Stealth Ram questions
Okay, thats a good start. Now for some suggestions. What size injectors for stock engine with the HSR on it. Any increase in HP at all with increasing the injector size for more fuel? What would a good cam be for the stock heads but would still work with aftermarket heads? I am just looking for suggestions from people who have done the swap in the past and have an idea on what all works together. Thanks for the help and please keep it coming it is helping a lot on narrowing down what I all need to purchase. Are stock injectors 19# injectors and if so would a set of 24# injectors be a good start for injector size? I see in the kit they come with 24# injectors just thought that might be a good place to start on injector size. Let me know if I am wrong on this.

Re: Stealth Ram questions
One more quick question. They have the regular intake and the vortec intake. The only difference between the two is that the first one is for regular heads and the vortec intake is to be used with vortec heads. Is this right?

Re: Stealth Ram questions
right, and if I remember, I THINK the regular and the Vortec style both take different fuel rails. I could be wrong, they could both use the same rails, but I cant remember off the top of my head. Think of you future build up plans. I bought the Vortec HSR and after I had it powder coated and I had a good bit of money into it, I came across a killer deal locally on some AFRs that I had to pass up, becasue they're standard heads not Vortec
