HSR/tpi swap

I notice this wire left over and found this sensor on my tpi that it plugs into,However my hsr had a hose fitting in place of where this sensor went,so i ran my egr to it...now im thinking i have to take it back off and install this sensor in place of it..is this my manifold temp sensor? do I need this? thx!! http://img39.imageshack.us/i/egr003.jpg/

Re: HSR/tpi swap

Looks to be the manifold air temp sensor to me and it's supposed to be on there. Surprised you haven't had a check engine light for it yet.

Re: HSR/tpi swap

It fits directly in the bottom center of the plenum.

Re: HSR/tpi swap

IAT sensor can be moved anywhere up the intake. Stock TPI sensors are a crummy design since they are cased brass, all the reading is from heatsoak of the plenum NOT the incoming air temp

Switching to an open element screw in like the V6 twin snorkel camaros somewhere in front of the TB would be ideal

Re: HSR/tpi swap

Id put mine in the the hole that was provided on my HSR.and that was direct bottom center.I cant imagine having it anywhere else unless you drilled and threaded additional holes. The wire would never reach the front of the TB. and is nicely hidden this way, along with the wires.

Re: HSR/tpi swap

Do you have the return/feed lines hooked up backwards on the regulator?

Re: HSR/tpi swap

I'm with pocket on the IAT, I switched to a "bird cage" type sensor and put it near the air filter so it gets a more accurate reading of air temp. I just put a pipe plug on the bottom of the plenum...

Re: HSR/tpi swap

hey i have an hsr now but not even close to installing yet, but i have a few question already. you know how on the stock tpi base manifold, there is the water outlet that goes to the tb (or if bypassed, the heater core)? the hsr doesnt appear to have one... and if its suppose to be where the brass plugs are, then how effective would that even be? and what is the fitment issue of the stock tpi thermo housing used on the hsr??? i havnt tried it yet, but eveyone talks about it

Re: HSR/tpi swap

Bypass the water from the throttle body to the intake base.

Thermostat housing bolt mounting holes are way different,(the bolt pattern on the hsr intake make your stock neck point the wrong way, i used a mr gasket, some people are having luck with other necks.

Re: HSR/tpi swap

well about the the water flow, your saying that the ONLY flow throught the intake is where the thermo houseing is?? there should be no other spot on the manifold that flows water? cuz i thought (on the stock tpi) that water flows THOUGH the thermo housing and OUT of the port on the bottom (where tb is bypassed)... without that bottom port, coolant flow will not happen right???

Re: HSR/tpi swap

coolant flows in through the neck then has to exit somewhere

Re: HSR/tpi swap

On the front of you HSR manifold ther should be two bolt holes to the left of your water neck, either or is and water exit you choose, one points up and the other points forward. http://img22.imageshack.us/i/engine0037.jpg/

Re: HSR/tpi swap

mainly an emission thing. worry about it if you require to get smog checked, otherwise you can get ride of the EGR valve

Re: HSR/tpi swap

You will have to turn if off in the chip as well. (custom chip required...) else it will set a code, and won't run as well as it could.

It is a direct fit into one of the large (1/2" NPT ) holes tapped in the back face of the plenum but will be heat soaked there
