HSR questions

hey guys im thinking about getting an hsr for my 89 bird. the bad thing is i have emissions testing where i live (texas). i read that the egr is not funtional after the swap. Is there no way to have an egr when you do a hsr upgrade or am i going to have to do it and just drive it with a bad inspection sticker for a few years untill it turns 25?

also where is the cheapest place to get the holley stealth ram?

last question is i know id have to get a chip burned to have the car run right afterward so im thinking about going with sinister performance. anybody heard of them or dealt with them? thanks for any comments

Re: HSR questions

I have integrated a fully functional EGR system into my HSR. Some cutting, fabbing, drilling and tapping is necessary. If you are REALLY interested (not much interest in my BO91 EGR mod has been shown on this board...), I'll type it out one more time. NO, it is not "smog legal," but I'll be getting my car inspected in the next few weeks, and I'd bet a cold soda it will pass (*crosses fingers*).

Re: HSR questions

sounds pretty scary to me. thanks for the write up and tell me how your inspection goes. and get some pics up if you can dang another 200 bucks for tpis egr? i guess thats worth it to pass inspection though. pretty cool to know that it is possible to make a hsr somewhat legal. thanks again for all the info

Re: HSR questions

ok i just found out that my county dosnt really do visual inspections so im not going to worry about the egr for right now.

another question i have is the fuel line issue with the HSR. what needs to be bought to make the lines work? im using the search button but im still not finding everything so forgive me if im re-asking alot of questions that have been answered.

Re: HSR questions

well if HSR is only to get only little of the power at the top-end then afpr is nood needed but if u wish to tune it more and get more from the engine it would be nice to get one

Re: HSR questions

well i want the 62 horsepower its supposed to give. i guess ill go ahead and get the non adjustable fuel regulator and order the kinsler that everyone is so happy with. my engine is pretty much stock with the exception of 1.6 roller rockers and full exhaust. it has 24lbs injectors and im planning on tuning my own chip with my friend that has the tunercat softwear.

You do know the peak HP in that test was like 10-15 more then the stock TPI right?

Re: HSR questions

yup, HSR (and others) move power/torque to different RPM range, give better breathing for enginne over 4000RPM, make car more accelerating and top speed, who has told You that HSR gives 62HP ?? HSR + 2x58TB + bigger injectors + chip would propably give around 40-50 HP but nothing more

best regards

Re: HSR questions

It may give 62 hp more at 6000 rpm but both intake setups are way passed its power curve.

I think I picked up around 20 whp total with my HSR and some other minor bolt ons over stock TPI L98 with full exhaust. Track times went from 13.6 at 97 to 13.2's at 101 in similar conditions and drag wheels. Better quality air adn 1.6 rockers it went 12.95 at 103.8. Cant complain with that.
