Re: LT4 Hot Cam w/ StealthRam?
its a good everyday cam. dont have the lopey idle that alot of us gearheads like but performs well. i have the stealth ram now and it loves my trickflow cam at high end but thats any stealth ram. youll get good power put of it and not break the bank on gas. plus without a stall you dont want to go to big on the cam.

Re: LT4 Hot Cam w/ StealthRam?
I'd venture a guess at high 200's whp? Bolt ons only can get you 260 on a good tune in good air. I would think that cam would be worth 30 more up top.
Its a good cam tho, works well on the LT1's it was designed for. Those heads arent too much different than 113 L98 heads and the Iron L98's are just alittle different than the 113 heads. They dont flow as well so it wont make as much power as the LT1's will, which routinely put down 330whp with that cam on stock heads.
Cant go wrong with that for a budget cam swap. You can find those cams used for 100-150 bucks all day

watch the springs.. you'll prolly need to change them and possibly gets some work done to clear the .525 lift that is if you use 1.6 rockers

Re: LT4 Hot Cam w/ StealthRam?
The only drawback with the LT4 hot cam is the valve springs it requires. I'm running factory 64cc truck heads (milled to 63cc's), and the factory springs are no where near spec for my LT4 hot cam. The GMPP springs spec'ed for it are $18.99 each from Summit, and unfortunately there are few alternatives that match the requirements;
1.320 outside diameter
332 lbs / in rate
1.220 in bind
1.780 installed height
101 lbs seat pressure
However, Trick Flow makes a set (TFS-31400413) that is close enough to work;
1.250 outside diameter
300 lbs / in rate
1.20 in bind
1.780 installed height
110 lbs seat pressure
You may need seat cups to install them, but the total cost of the springs and cups is under $100 from Summit.
I'm running the Hot Cam in a 331 TPI with a balanced bottom end, and a Megasquirt I ECM. It makes great power, is still streetable, and gives me decent mileage.

Re: LT4 Hot Cam w/ StealthRam?
Check out the specs of the LT4 Hot Cam vs a ZZ4 cam.
http://www.cis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/buildup/cam/
It's a fairly radical profile, especially for a "factory" cam. Just make sure your valvetrain is built to handle it or you're going to have your very own valve spring NASA space program.

Re: LT4 Hot Cam w/ StealthRam?
LT4 springs are really not that good. There are MANY other choices for springs that will work well in stock heads. Alot of the 1.25-1.29" diameter double springs should drop right in.
Still need to watch max lift on the heads...valve guide to retainer clearance is an issue.

Re: LT4 Hot Cam w/ StealthRam?
Those are good springs. A machine shop shouldnt charge too much to have the guides cut down. You may beable to do that yourself. Its recommended for cams over .470" but you'd have to measure to see how much room you have. The .050" offset retainers or locks can be used with about .050" shims underneath to raise the assembly over the guides to get more lift but I think that only gets you around .510" comfortably.

Re: LT4 Hot Cam w/ StealthRam?
They all will need atleast springs... you can get a custom grind or something with less than .460-.470" lift that wont need the guides cut down but still need springs swapped out.
To change a cam on these cars and to be worth it, i think you will have to atleast change springs. Now you can do the retainer/offset lock thing and shims underneath to get near .500" lift if you measure it all out. Can run a decent .480-ish lift cam then with some duration to it and get decent gains. Beehive kit is suppose to get more useable lift range due to smaller retainers or something like that but I dont have measurements to show it.

Re: LT4 Hot Cam w/ StealthRam?

I cross-referenced the part numbers with Summit, and the only explanation I can come up with is they must be feeding a crack habit to have their prices so ridiculous on those springs. I'll be buying them from SD instead.

Who has figured out a good tune for a speed density HSR with a lt4 hot cam, good heads (285 CFM) and exhaust (2210) in a 355 with 30lb injectors. That is the route I am going and I need my prom done.

Then you always have the option of changing to 1.6's down the track if you need more lift

Are you set on the LT4 Hot Cam? While I was doing my research on here for my cam choice, many people recommended the Comp Cams 268 XFI. People said its similar to the Hot Cam but just a more modern version of it. But of course its more expensive than the LT4 hot cam.
And on a side note...your heads may choke out that cam. Just my

Re: LT4 Hot Cam w/ StealthRam?
The hot cam is a great cam however it does leave some power on the table.......
I prefer a little more for a performance based camshaft like the comp cams 503. You can also check out. www.elliotsportworks.com he can match a cam to your current combination to optimize your performance goals.......
