HSR Firebird hood clearance
I have (second hand) heard nightmares about hood clearance on Camaros---and Firebirds have less!
Any Firebird owners have a HSR? Tell me about the clearance please and thanks

Had to trim my hood bracing just like everyone else, but otherwise no problem at all in mine.

Same, cut out the center bracing on my trans am's hood. The accodian-ish intake tube still scuffs the hood but it'll do for now.

Re: HSR Firebird hood clearance
it says right on the information for them that they require a 2 inch cowl.

Naa, trimmed my hood bracing, stock formula bulge hood clears no problem. On a Vette I bet it would require a cowl hood though.

Yep, I had no problem on my GTA. I cleared just enough that I could close the hood though it rubbed a bit.
However if you have Poly Mounts you will definitely have a problem. Also, new engine mounts might make it require more clearancing as the engine will sit slightly higher than with older mounts that have sagged a bit.

Re: HSR Firebird hood clearance
Well I had a problem with it in mine but I was planning on getting the ram air hood anyway. Now I have that hood and there are no problems.

i havent installed my hsr yet but the guy i bought it from had the hsr milled down so that it wouldnt hit the hood on a firebird.i imagine it will still be very tight since i have poly mounts that are 3yrs old so maybe they have settled a lil.my main concern is i want to still use a stb..anyone have one while using a hsr?

i know i cant use a regular off the shefl stb but i was more asking has anyone made anything custom to stiffen the upper struts.i have a bmr..and wont have an issue trying to make up something even if its big and goes around the hsr just to fit the application and then powdercoat it

Re: HSR Firebird hood clearance
It rubs pretty much where the throttle bodies are if I remember correctly(mine isnt installed yet) And the reasoning is because on the TPI plenum the throttle body is mounted on a downward angle to clear the hood when they were made on the earlier c4 corvettes. The HSR being completly square sits very high especially with the sharper slope on firebird hoods compared to camaros. The easiest fix is to notch the centre brace on the hood that would prevent the hood from closing. The rest of the plenum is still close but clears fine if you dont have underhood lining.

Hey if it fits..... Anyone know if Holley Stealth Ram will fit under a formula hood???? If you have clearance under your hood should fit the formula right?

I think you have to cut a bit of bracing out from what I understand. The engine actually sits a bit to the passengers side, thats why mine is cut a bit to the left.

Re: HSR Firebird hood clearance
make sure you cut it back farther then I did, this is why.

I thought it was fine,It close easily, then a few days later I noticed this notch in my plenum,I thought someone hit It with a wrench at first, loaded my gun and welcomed any more vandels...upon further inspection I found a slight rub mark on the bracing were I made my cut,It was gradual I imagine the motor shaking wore the notch into the plenum....trying to save a few bucks by not buying a cowl hood will now cost me 300 to replace my plenum,I dont think holley sells just the plenum I will have to buy a whole new intake, what a bummer.
